, seeing all forms with the eye of miraculous power, knowing death and birth, knowing the future time. Hearing all sounds with the ear of miraculous power. Knowing the minds of others, knowing the various kinds of minds of sentient beings. Remembering past lives, knowing the circumstances of one's own and others' past lives. Transforming into various bodies with the direct perception of miraculous power, displaying various kinds of miraculous powers, thus, by the power of direct perception, one can accomplish all the desires of oneself and others as desired. The generation of bodhicitta, which possesses the four objects of gathering, should be known as being like the sun. Just as the sun ripens various crops. Gathering the miserly with generosity, placing them in virtue. Likewise, gathering the wrathful with kind speech, the foolish with beneficial conduct, the arrogant with harmonious actions, placing them in virtue. Or, in general, gathering all sentient beings with the four means of gathering, placing them in virtue, thereby ripening their streams of being. Furthermore, the generation of bodhicitta, which possesses the four kinds of correct knowledge of dharma, meaning, etymology, and eloquence, is like the beautiful sound of a Gandharva. Because it possesses the four kinds of individual correct knowledge, sentient beings each want to understand starting from which dharma and meaning, when they are asked, the eloquence of the Bodhisattva is inexhaustible. By correctly explaining the meaning of what those sentient beings ask in their respective languages, their minds become extremely satisfied. Just as the beautiful sound of a Gandharva is extremely pleasant, whoever hears it is satisfied because their mind is filled with joy. Furthermore, the generation of bodhicitta, which possesses the four reliances, should be known as being like a king. A king rules the country, so his subjects cannot disobey, and it is not wasted. Any Bodhisattva who possesses the four reliances can master words and meanings, persons and dharmas, provisional and definitive meanings, consciousness and wisdom, thereby knowing without error all the intentions taught by the Tathagata, and can unerringly understand the meaning of the Buddha's words without wasting them. For example, if a king is good at assisting, he can benefit the people with power and enjoyment.

It becomes the cause of not wasting, and if relied upon wrongly, it becomes the cause of wasting, as it leads to danger for life and existence. Similarly, if one relies only on a person, mere words, superficial meaning, or consciousness, then the person who relies in that way becomes the cause of wasting. If one relies on the Dharma, meaning, ultimate meaning, and wisdom, then such reliance will not waste the meaning of the Buddha's teachings. Similarly, the bodhicitta that possesses the two accumulations of merit and wisdom is like a treasury. Just as a treasury contains immeasurable grains and wealth, similarly, the bodhicitta that is in accordance with it also possesses immeasurable accumulations of merit and immeasurable accumulations of wisdom. The bodhicitta that possesses the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment is like a great road on which all beings of the three times, high and low, travel. Similarly, these thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are also the path from which all Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas of the past, present, and future attain their respective fruits of enlightenment. Therefore, it should be understood that these two are similar. The bodhicitta that possesses both shamatha and vipashyana should be understood as being like a vehicle. Just as riding a horse, elephant, chariot, etc., one can carry loads and reach any place one desires, similarly, the union of shamatha, which keeps the mind undistracted and focused on one point, and vipashyana, which realizes the meaning without error, enables one to realize the meaning of all phenomena, as they are and as many as there are, without distortion, and ultimately reach the state of the ultimate fruit. The bodhicitta that possesses the two, unfailing memory and inexhaustible eloquence, is like the water of a treasure trove. No matter how much everyone uses it, the water of the treasure trove never runs out. Just as the flow of water never ceases, so too, the Bodhisattva who has attained dharani never forgets the Dharma he has heard before, and it never diminishes. Through eloquence, he newly elaborates, and no matter how much he teaches, it never comes to an end. All conditioned things are impermanent, all contaminated things are suffering, all phenomena are without self, and Nirvana is peace. The bodhicitta that possesses these four seals of the Dharma or four sutras is
