as a cause, and in bad times it causes bad things to be born, and things like caterpillar fungus are green in summer and turn gray in winter, and turn into cold and other properties. Some places that were previously temples later became villages, becoming places where many people gather. Places that were previously villages are now temples, etc., appearing different before and after, which is the fourth change. These four changes also change from the continuous stream of moments, but each moment does not have a different form. The permanent nature that is not a moment can never have change, because different forms are born from the previous and subsequent moments, so the earth element is also established as a moment. The four, color, smell, taste, and touch, are similar to those produced by the four elements, so the four, color, etc., are also the same as the four elements, and are established by the reasoning that establishes the four elements as momentary. Fire depends on firewood, and the way it enters is that if there is firewood, it burns; if there is no firewood, it does not burn; if the firewood is large, the fire is also large; if it is small, it is small, so it is established as a moment. Fire is momentary, and so is firewood. Firewood gradually burns and fire is produced. If firewood exists as before and fire is produced, then how can both fire and firewood be exhausted? If firewood is exhausted, fire does not exist. Therefore, in the sequence of the moment of cause and the moment of effect, as long as there is a cause, the fruit fire will be produced. If there is no cause, the fruit fire will not appear. Therefore, all things appear continuously in the arising and ceasing of cause and effect. When talking about the fire element, it was said that one should have first spoken of facial color, etc., and then spoken of fire after color, etc., feeling that the order was not good. No matter how it is spoken, there is no contradiction in meaning, because the combination of words is arranged conveniently, so it is spoken in this way. Moreover, all elements and things produced from elements are of the same kind, the previous is the cause, and the later is the effect, arising and ceasing in a moment. Fire and firewood are also for the purpose of showing an example. Some people think that sound is permanent, and its continuity is like color, etc.

Because permanence does not exist. If it is said that sound is permanent during the time it is produced, and not momentary, that is not correct. Because through the effort produced by the agent, etc., the continuity of the sound is perceived as becoming louder and louder, and the sound produced by striking bells, etc., also becomes smaller and smaller, therefore it is established as momentary. If there is no moment in a single sound before the sound disappears, then it is unreasonable to become louder and smaller, so sound is momentary, just as a person makes an effort to produce sound, and the mouth utters words, which arise and cease in sequence. Non-cognitive form in the realm of phenomena, such as the vows of individual liberation and stainless meditative concentration, etc., the non-cognitive of body and speech also follow the mind, because without relying on the causal mind, they will not arise. Because the causal mind is impermanent, the resultant non-cognitive form is also established as momentary. To ask, meaning that worldly people and non-Buddhists, although they believe that all conditioned things will eventually perish and are impermanent, but like the death of a person and the breaking of a pot, before they have personally seen the destruction, they believe that their own nature exists and is not momentary, and ask about this. When do you believe that all conditioned things are ultimately impermanent, but why do you not believe that they are momentarily impermanent during this time? When asked, they say, we see that all conditioned things will eventually perish, but before they perish, we have not seen momentary destruction, so we do not believe that this is momentary destruction. To this, one should ask: The flame of a lamp and the flow of a river, etc., the momentary arising of new ones and the cessation of the previous ones, are accepted by both Buddhists and non-Buddhists, but when a river is seen from a distance, and when the flame of a lamp is not moved by the wind, if momentary destruction is not personally seen, why do you not believe that they are momentary? If asked in this way. Looking at the flowing water from a distance, it looks like a whole, but looking closer, you will clearly see that new water is constantly produced, not the same water. For the flame of a lamp, the previous flame gradually exhausts and disappears at the top, and then new flames gradually arise from the root. Finally, when the oil runs out, the flame becomes smaller and smaller until it goes out. Always
