It is to know the characteristics of the side of afflictions and the side of the Dharma to be taken, that is, the side of purification, without confusing them. Diligence is to obtain the superior and special qualities, and to abandon the faults that hinder the attainment of such qualities. Joy is when the first bhumi being directly realizes the meaning of pervading the entire realm of Dharma, and is separated from the obscurations to be abandoned by seeing, and supreme joy arises in body and mind. Therefore, that bhumi is also named the Extremely Joyful Bhumi. Extreme pliancy is when the body and mind are separated from the bad states of being unserviceable, so that the body is serviceable and feels comfortable, and the mind is serviceable and can abide in the object of focus without hindrance. Samadhi is the one-pointedness of mind focusing on the suchness of the realm of Dharma. Equanimity is to abandon all the faults of sinking and excitement, and to abide naturally in an unshakable state, like a clear ocean without waves and turbidity. Among these seven, discriminating Dharma, diligence, and joy are the aspects of insight. Extreme pliancy, samadhi, and equanimity are the aspects of calm abiding. Mindfulness is the aspect of both, because it is all-pervasive. These seven limbs of enlightenment, by whom are they established at what time, by whom are they known and established, how are the seven themselves established, and how are these seven established as five branches? Among these four, first, in the previous stage of aspiration and conduct, although there were mindfulness and wisdom, etc., they did not receive the name of limbs of enlightenment. Entering the faultless ground of the noble ones, the mindfulness, etc., existing in the continuum of those who have attained the first bhumi are established as limbs of enlightenment. Secondly, the meaning of saying that these are limbs of enlightenment is that the possessor of limbs directly knows the nature of equality, which is the nature of enlightenment, so mindfulness, etc., are also established as its limbs. Because one realizes that the nature of phenomena that arise and all sentient beings are primordially pure in their unborn nature, and are originally equal in enlightenment, at that time, the transcendental ultimate bodhicitta arises. This is also because one realizes that all phenomena are selfless, so all phenomena are equal.

And, by realizing the selflessness of beings or individuals, one directly realizes the equality of beings. Alternatively, in equipoise, one comprehends the selflessness of phenomena and individuals like understanding the center of the sky, thereby realizing the equality of all phenomena. In post-meditation, whatever I am, all sentient beings are also the same; whatever all sentient beings are, I am also the same. Just as I pacify my own suffering, I should also pacify the suffering of all sentient beings, thereby comprehending without difference between self and others, thus knowing the equality of all sentient beings. Third, how the seven are established: Just as a wheel-turning king possesses seven jewels as branches of kingship, so too, for a Bodhisattva who directly realizes the enlightenment that is unborn from the beginning, seven branches of enlightenment are established. When a wheel-turning king appears in the world, then due to the power of his merit, a precious wheel with a thousand spokes, made by divine artisans from divine substances, with a well-adorned rim, will appear. It rises into the sky like a second sun, and following it, the wheel-turning king himself, along with his army, also travels in the sky, and merely by going to the minor kings in the fortresses and cities of various regions, they come to greet him and become subjects, thereby achieving victory over all lands that were previously unconquered and unruled, this is called the precious wheel. Similarly, the precious elephant is like the snow mountain (Mount Kailash) traveling in the sky, its form and strength are perfect, all its limbs are well-formed, it is suitable for a great king and is perfectly tamed, able to destroy all enemy forces. The precious horse has a pleasing blue-green color like the feathers of a peacock's neck, its form is perfect, it is a swift horse, able to easily circle the lands up to the edge of the ocean in the time it takes a child to eat his morning meal, and is able to return, possessing perfect qualities of a mount. The mani jewel produces all that is needed and desired, is made of lapis lazuli, is deep blue in color, beautiful in shape, and at night
