The divine eye is attained through the practice of the first dhyana and the subsequent four dhyanas. It surpasses the physical eye and can perceive all objects, large and small, in the ten directions and three times. The wisdom eye of the noble ones is the wisdom of non-discrimination, which sees the suchness of reality. The Dharma eye knows the words and meanings of all the scriptures, including the sutras, without obstruction. The Buddha's eye directly sees all knowable things of the three times, as they are and in their entirety. The physical eye can see one yojana, and even know the subtle and coarse forms of a hundred yojanas, Jambudvipa, and the entire great thousandfold world system. The Buddha's physical eye sees all present forms in all the worlds of the ten directions. The divine eye also has two types: one born from karma and one born from meditation. The former is the extremely pure faculty obtained by the gods from their own karma, which clearly sees all forms, near and far. The latter is the extremely pure faculty that arises from the elements of the dhyana ground through the power of yogis' meditation. With this, they can see where beings have died and been reborn, and where they will be born in the future, seeing past, future, and present forms. The Dharma eye sees the individual and general characteristics of dharmas, as well as the faculties of beings, including those equal to or lower than oneself. The Buddha's eye sees all dharmas without attachment or obstruction. The different classifications of the five eyes are explained in the commentaries. The attainment of instructions is the six abhijñas (supernormal knowledges). Based on the power of miraculous feet, one receives the transmission of instructions from the Tathagata, and the reason for giving the transmission of instructions to other beings is the accomplishment of the six abhijñas through meditation. With the direct perception of miraculous powers, one can travel without obstruction to the Buddhafields and the various places where beings dwell. With the divine eye, one can see the bodies of the Buddhas and the bodies of beings. With the divine ear, one can hear the voices of the Tathagatas and the sounds of beings. With the knowledge of others' minds, one can understand the minds of beings.

Knowing what others are thinking, knowing where oneself and others were born in the past through the power of remembering previous existences, knowing where one will be born in the future through the knowledge of death and rebirth, and in order to exhaust the afflictions in the mindstreams of oneself and others through the exhaustion of outflows, receiving the words of instruction from the Tathagata and also showing them to other sentient beings. Abiding and playing is to play or revel with various magical displays and emanations in the mandala and other places of the Tathagata's retinue through the power of magical knowledge, and also aspiration, which is to accomplish aspiration. By the power of the wisdom born from the power of aspiration, just as one has made aspirations, one is freely born in those realms of gods and humans, and one rejoices by performing various deeds that benefit sentient beings. As it says in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis, the qualities of the body, the qualities of the power of the mind, and the qualities of the voice of those Bodhisattvas who take birth by the power of aspiration are not easy to express. Accomplishing the attainment of power is to attain the ten powers, that is, by the power of cultivating the four legs of miraculous power, blessing the activity of life, and abiding as long as one wishes, is to have power over life. Similarly, entering into immeasurable Mahayana samadhi as one wishes is to have power over the mind. Raining down from the sky various desired objects like rain and benefiting sentient beings is to have power over objects. Performing various activities of body and speech emanations, or blessing the actions born in other realms, other destinies, and other births, and causing them to go to other realms and other destinies, is to have power over actions. Abiding in the meditation of the form realm and not falling away from it, being born in the desire realm for the benefit of sentient beings is to have power over birth. The earth turning into gold, water turning into nectar, etc., changing as one desires, is to have power over desire. Represented by the ten great aspirations spoken of in the first bhumi, accomplishing immeasurable great aspirations that accomplish the perfect benefit of oneself and others is to have power over aspiration.
