Do not make an effort, but remain in equanimity in that state, do not make other antidotes, thus the three characteristics hold the mind, the characteristic of calming holds from agitation, the characteristic of praise or insight, holds from dullness, and the characteristic of equanimity holds the mind in that very nature of being free from dullness and agitation, diligence is diligence in the three characteristics, the three characteristics are the means of holding the mind, by repeatedly holding the mind with such means, it becomes workable, and spontaneously abiding without effort is the correct establishment, like a result. Although there are other explanations for those five sutra verses, here it is explained according to the 'Commentary of Wisdom'. Thus, at the time of those five situations, it is certain to say that in all correct abandonments, the antidote that abandons the opposing side of each of them. Third, the four legs of magical power are explained, the characteristic of the magical legs of the Bodhisattvas who rely on them is that they possess qualities that are superior to those of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and there are four types, namely the leg of magical power of aspiration, and likewise diligence, mind, and contemplation. Having these four, it is said that one has power over magical powers such as walking in the sky. Likewise, it is superior to the four legs of magical power of Hearers and Solitary Realizers because it is born for the sake of accomplishing all the meanings of the world and beyond the world for oneself and other sentient beings. The establishment of the legs of magical power is that the legs of magical power of the wise Bodhisattva are thought to be established in all categories by means of the basis, various distinctions, means, and direct realization, that is, the basis arises from relying on the perfection of meditative concentration, by familiarizing oneself with the four immeasurables, the mind becomes workable, and by relying on obtaining the pure first dhyana, second dhyana, third dhyana, and fourth dhyana, one will obtain direct realization. The various distinctions and means are four types, namely the four of aspiration, diligence, mind, and contemplation are the distinctions of nature. That also relies on believing in the emptiness and selflessness of all phenomena

From joy and reverence, initiating diligence, thereby obtaining the samadhi of one-pointedness of mind, is the samadhi of aspiration. Or, through the power of aspiration, through the respectful diligence of the four right abandonments, obtaining one-pointedness of mind. Or, through continuous diligence towards the four right abandonments, obtaining one-pointedness of mind, this is the miraculous foot of diligence. In short, the desire for samadhi is the cause, and initiating diligence from it is the actual method of accomplishment. Mind is quiescence itself; relying on the habitual patterns of cultivating quiescence in previous lives, in this life, with slight effort, one can obtain one-pointedness of mind, this is the samadhi of mind. Observation is vipassana; just as obtaining the key to samadhi, through the discrimination of wisdom, eliminating doubt, thereby obtaining one-pointedness of mind. In short, for the samadhi of one-pointedness of mind on the object of focus, it is necessary to have all four: aspiration, diligence, mind, and observation, equally present. The four methods are: In order to avoid the five faults that prevent the accomplishment of samadhi, there are eight mental activities, which here are summarized into four methods for accomplishing samadhi. The eight abandonments are: faith, aspiration, diligence, pliancy, mindfulness, awareness, attention, and equanimity. That is to say, first, one develops faith in obtaining samadhi, then, in order to accomplish it, one generates aspiration, thereby generating diligence. Therefore, if diligence exists, then faith and aspiration must exist beforehand. These three are summarized into diligence, this one is the method of joy or effort. The second method is pliancy, the ability of body and mind, which is the nature of helping to accomplish samadhi. Mindfulness and awareness have the same function, therefore they are summarized into one, which is the third method, making one not distracted from the object of focus. Attention and equanimity, these two are the fourth method, becoming the antidote to conceptual thought and afflictions. The six abhijñās are the manifestation of seeing based on the miraculous foot, which are the five eyes. From the maturation of cultivating the miraculous foot, with the physical eye, one can see all subtle and coarse forms in the three thousand great thousand world systems.
