Since non-conceptual wisdom is effortlessly and spontaneously accomplished, the offering made by one Bodhisattva at that time is also made by all the Bodhisattvas who have entered that ground in a manner that merges into the same meaning. Because those Bodhisattvas all enter into the same meaning, it is superior to the offerings made by worldly Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Second, relying on a virtuous spiritual friend. The manner of relying on a spiritual friend, its divisions, and showing the distinctions of excellence, the first of these three. Briefly stated, and in detail, two types. First, in relying on a spiritual friend, there are eight aspects: the characteristics of a virtuous spiritual friend as the object of reliance, the basis or entity upon which one relies, the reasons for relying, what one dedicates towards, the cause for accomplishing a virtuous spiritual friend, becoming skilled in wisdom from that, purifying the field, vessel, and essence, and thoroughly showing from the perspective of the place of reliance, based on where one abides. First, the virtuous spiritual friend as the object of reliance is: one who has tamed their mind-stream with the training of higher morality, thereby subduing the senses; one who has pacified afflictions and distractions with the training of higher concentration; and one who has nearly pacified afflictions and conceptual thoughts with the training of higher wisdom. If the object of reliance is superior to oneself in qualities such as morality and learning, then it is the nature of increasing virtue, and equal to oneself. If one relies on someone inferior, the benefit is small. The spiritual friend should also have diligence in teaching the Dharma to others, be rich in scriptural authority by having heard much of the sacred Dharma, have realization by thoroughly ascertaining the suchness of the four truths, dependent origination, emptiness, etc., and be skilled in speaking the Dharma in a way that connects names, words, and letters clearly, and be the very nature of compassion for the disciples to be tamed, and abandon discouragement such as being unwilling to teach the Dharma, not teaching it well, or not teaching it diligently and constantly after teaching it a little. One should rely on such a spiritual friend. Second, having found a virtuous spiritual friend, how should one rely on them? By showing respect with the body, such as prostrating, welcoming and seeing them off, rising from one's seat, and looking with joyful eyes and a smiling face, and by praising them, etc.

Speaking in accordance with what is said, expressing loving and respectful words, etc., showing reverence through speech, and with complete faith and joy in the mind, this is to serve well with reverence through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. Offering is to offer robes and bedding, etc., whatever items are needed, and serving is to serve as an attendant by washing the body and massaging, etc., and to accomplish all that should be done, this is the way to serve with external objects. When the virtuous friend teaches the Dharma, one should approach the virtuous friend in the manner of listening, contemplating, and meditating, in the way of practicing the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma, and this is called serving with internal objects. In this way, serving the virtuous friend with external and internal objects is called the basis. The third reason is to understand the reason, just as one serves the virtuous friend with faith, the intelligent disciple, with regard to the Dharma that should be heard, should abandon thoughts of jealousy and stealing the Dharma, and bad thoughts such as finding faults, and should establish the thought of completely understanding the Dharma itself. One should often go to the virtuous friend to listen to the Dharma, but one should not go when the virtuous friend is meditating or eating, etc., when it is inconvenient, but one should often go to listen to the Dharma when it is convenient. At that time, one should go to the virtuous friend with respectful bowing and prostration, with gentle behavior of body and mind, and one should never go with disrespectful and arrogant behavior. The fourth is dedication, for what purpose is the service to the virtuous friend dedicated? Or for what purpose does one think and enter? In this way, serving the virtuous friend, if one thinks that by associating with a learned or famous person, one will also become learned and famous, and thus receive respect and offerings from others, one should completely cut off this thought or not wish to dedicate for this purpose, but rather serve the virtuous friend in order to practice the three trainings of the Dharma taught by the virtuous friend from the depths of one's heart. By relying on this, through listening to the Dharma and cultivating the mind, I will become a noble being.
