In this chapter on Immeasurability, there are four conclusions to the practices of offering to the Buddha, relying on a spiritual friend, and cultivating the four immeasurables. The first of these is the explanation of the nature of offering, which is shown through seven verses beginning with "Excellent and with mind." With a mind of utmost pure intention, in order to perfect the necessity of accumulating the two accumulations, to the Buddhas of the Buddha-fields, with offerings such as Dharma robes, begging bowls, umbrellas, victory banners, flowers, and so on, including respect and listening to the Dharma. In short, it is offering with various objects of offering. So, what is the method? If it is the time when the supreme Buddha's emanation body appears in the world, then offering is made directly to the Buddha himself. When the Buddha does not reside in the world, then one mentally focuses on the Tathagatas, placing images, paintings, stupas, and so on in front, and makes offerings. These are the two types of offering: direct and non-direct. Meeting and offering to the Buddha when he appears in the world, and making him happy, may I and all sentient beings become meaningful, and may we have such aspirations. Furthermore, not fixating on the characteristics of the Buddha-field, the Buddha, the offerer (myself), and the objects of offering, these three, is the complete offering to the Buddha. Manifesting the Buddhas of the ten directions, with immeasurable offerings, may I and all sentient beings always make offerings for the sake of perfecting the two accumulations, and may we make this aspiration. Ultimately, offering in a state of non-fixation on the three circles of offering, the offering itself is said to be perfectly complete in accordance with the Dharma. The distinction of offering lies in fully ripening sentient beings immeasurably, which is one aspect of offering to the Buddha. Benefiting sentient beings is the supreme offering that pleases the Tathagatas. That is, in the minds of sentient beings, generating the thought of offering to the Buddha, and engaging them in activities such as making offerings, mainly explaining the Dharma that ripens them, and dedicating this as an offering that pleases the Tathagatas. Also, offering from the aspect of material, offering with various material objects such as Dharma robes and flowers, and without relying on material,

Offering through the mind also has two categories. If we divide the offering of the mind, there are nine, from faith to suchness. The first, faith, is when the mind focuses on the Buddha, generating joy, and believing that all offerings, both ungrasped and grasped, worldly and transcendent, are offered, which is an offering through the mind. However, in this context, among the three mentioned: faith, thought, and mastery, the first, the faith in the meaning of the Mahayana sutras that teach the Dharma of offering to the Tathagatas, is also an offering of the mind. Thought includes nine aspects: experiencing taste, rejoicing, delighting, being insatiable, being vast, joyful, beneficial, without afflictions, and virtuous thought. These are also offerings of the mind. That is, remembering one's previous offerings and savoring the present offering as excellent; rejoicing in the offerings of others; delighting in the future offerings made by oneself and others; being insatiable because the objects of offering, the recipients of offering, and the time are not limited but immeasurable; desiring to perform the offering continuously until sitting at the Bodhi tree, having a vast thought without time limit; loving and rejoicing all sentient beings, the field to be ripened by the offering; desiring that this offering benefit all sentient beings; being without attachment, pride, etc., and without afflictions because not desiring contaminated results; dedicating this offering so that all sentient beings attain the fruit of unsurpassed Bodhi, which is virtuous thought. The third, mastery, is offering to the Tathagatas by relying on the samadhi of the Treasury of Space, etc., which is also offering through the mind. Aspiration is generating the unsurpassed Bodhicitta and benefiting oneself and others in whatever life one is born, and making the aspiration that the Tathagatas are offered with immeasurable offerings, which is also offering through the mind. This is also called reliance. By cherishing compassion, desiring to eliminate the suffering of sentient beings, one will also be offering to the Tathagatas, and oneself and all sentient beings.
