For those who seek whatever body and wealth they desire, the Bodhisattva satisfies those sentient beings as they wish, and thinks that this Bodhisattva has become a companion for the completion of my pāramitās and the attainment of unsurpassed Bodhi, just as they think that the Bodhisattva has given them great help. Similarly, or like that, beggars obtain something greater than a great amount of wealth, and they do not regard the giver with gratitude because of what they have obtained, thinking, "This person gave me this." Just as from a great tree full of excellent fruit on the roadside where many people travel, people enjoy the fruit of that tree as they wish without hesitation or fear. Sentient beings take a large amount of wealth from the Bodhisattva without needing anything, and they think, "There is no one who does not give to me," they get rid of doubts and use these possessions as they please, and are happy about it. Holding wealth does not make them happy, but giving it away makes them happy, and having inexhaustible wealth, there is no one like that other than the Bodhisattva. These last two verses are the qualities of certainty. Just as compassion is symbolized by this special way of giving for the benefit of others, the meaning of accomplishing other pāramitās such as discipline in the same way, striving mainly for the benefit of others with great compassion, will also be understood. Fourth, explaining in detail the qualities of the Perfection of Diligence, there are two parts: a summary and a detailed explanation. The first part, the main content and its causes, etc., is one verse: The Tathāgatas have taught that diligence is the chief and supreme of all the perfections, as well as its reasons, and that diligence has classifications of action, classifications of form, classifications of support, and classifications of antidotes to the four kinds of obstacles. Through these classifications, diligence should be fully understood. The second part is a detailed explanation. First, among all meritorious and virtuous dharmas, diligence is supreme. Second, stating the reason for this: Why is it supreme? Because by relying on diligence, those collections of virtuous dharmas are subsequently obtained; without diligence,

No Dharma or virtuous deeds can be obtained, and whether the merit is great or small depends on the magnitude of diligence, as it is obtained through diligence. If it is thought that Samadhi and wisdom can destroy afflictions, are they not the most supreme? Although this is so, they will not arise without effort in diligence. Therefore, from the perspective that diligence is the cause of all virtuous Dharmas, it is the most supreme. Third, the difference in actions is: merely by initiating diligence, one can achieve the supreme state of being happy in the present Dharma. Even ordinary worldly people can see the results in this life by diligently seeking methods to pacify diseases and eliminate poverty. Similarly, by diligently practicing Shamatha-Vipassana, one can obtain the merits of Samadhi and Vipassana as visible Dharmas in this life. Through diligence, all worldly and transcendental merits can be achieved in this life and the next. The diligence of practicing the ten worldly virtues can obtain the blissful fruits of gods and humans who enjoy desirable desires in Samsara. Merely by initiating diligence in focusing on Samadhi and the formless Samadhis, one can obtain the fruits of the four Dhyanas and the four formless absorptions, because the afflictions of the lower realm of the desire realm are not permanently purified, but are constantly changing. By practicing the meaning of the four truths and dependent origination, one can transcend the view of the aggregates and obtain the liberation of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas' Nirvana. Merely by diligently practicing the Mahayana Dharma, one can attain the supreme and perfect Bodhi. Third, the difference in aspects is: Furthermore, the diligence that possesses the four right abandonments can pacify evil that has arisen and prevent evil that has not arisen, thereby eliminating faults; the diligence that generates good that has not arisen and increases good that has arisen is the path of accumulating merit. The diligence that possesses the five faculties is the root of liberation, that is, the diligence that can dominate liberation; the diligence of the five powers is other diligence that abandons unfavorable qualities; at the stage of perfect enlightenment, it is the diligence of deeply entering Suchness; at the stage of the eightfold noble path, it is right effort, which is abiding in the noble path.
