Therefore, the perfections of giving and discipline are completely encompassed by the first two. Giving is the nature of non-abiding, as it is complete giving through the door of the body. Discipline is also, from the three vows of individual liberation, concentration, and non-outflow, the seven abandonments of body and speech of individual liberation are non-abiding, because they are not held by the mind. Concentration and wisdom gather the white dharmas of abiding, concentration is the nature of true abiding, and within it are also included concentration and the vows of non-outflow. In terms of wisdom, the wisdom of hearing and thinking belongs to non-abiding, and the wisdom of meditation belongs to abiding, because it is insight. Patience and diligence are present when entering the non-abiding giving and discipline, so they belong to non-abiding, and there is also patience and diligence when practicing shamatha-vipassana, which belongs to abiding, therefore, these two completely encompass them. Eighth, abandoning the unfavorable aspects of the perfections, each perfection is indicated by a verse. The giving of a Bodhisattva is free from seven unfavorable aspects, what are the seven? It is an unfavorable aspect to be attached to the objects of enjoyment and unable to give them away, abandoning it means not being attached to enjoyment. If someone begs, not giving immediately but delaying and postponing, abandoning postponement means not being attached to postponement. Is giving just this much enough? Or only giving to this person? Or only giving in this place, at this time? Like this, without being attached to satisfaction with partiality, discrimination, etc., without partiality towards things, places, times, people, not being attached to satisfaction, giving is not for expecting a reward, nor is it attachment, giving is not craving the ripening of great enjoyment in the future, not being attached to the tendencies of unfavorable miserliness and attachment, giving without the slightest defilement of miserliness. Not being attached to the distraction of attention and conceptualization means not directing the attention of dedicating giving etc. to the enlightenment of hearers and solitary realizers, and the conceptualization of focusing on the three circles.

Giving up. Similarly, the discipline of a Bodhisattva is: not attached to sexual misconduct, not procrastinating, not attached to one-sided satisfaction, not attached to expecting returns for not harming others with discipline, etc., and not attached to contaminated results, not attached to the habits of afflictions, not attached to the conceptualizations of inferior paths, attention, and the three wheels of substantial clinging. The patience of a Bodhisattva is not attached to harming others by disturbing one's mind with anger, not procrastinating without immediately practicing patience, not attached to considering a little one-sided patience as sufficient, and not attached to expecting returns for benefiting oneself in return for being patient, not attached to the results of thinking that practicing patience will lead to a good appearance and many retinues in the future, not attached to the habits that are contrary to anger, and not attached to the distraction of attention and conceptualization. The diligence of a Bodhisattva is not attached to the manifestation of laziness, which is contrary to it, not procrastinating without quickly engaging in virtue, not attached to considering one-sided diligence as sufficient, and not attached to diligence for the benefit of others and expecting returns for benefiting oneself, not attached to the results of accomplishing all actions in the future, not attached to the habits that are contrary to laziness, and not attached to the conceptualization of inferior paths, attention, and the three wheels. The meditation of a Bodhisattva is not attached to the manifestation of distraction, which is contrary to it, not procrastinating about when to meditate, not attached to considering a little one-sided meditation as sufficient, and not attached to benefiting others with meditation and expecting returns, not attached to the results of being free from illness and being born in higher realms, not attached to the habits that are contrary to distraction, and not attached to the distraction of conceptualization of inferior paths, attention, and the three wheels. The wisdom of a Bodhisattva is not attached to the manifestation of wrong views such as permanence and annihilation, and not procrastinating in honoring and serving virtuous friends and listening, thinking, etc.
