How is it attained? Now, having completely transformed, one who abides on the first bhumi, having practiced immeasurable bodhisattva conduct for one countless eon on the ground of adhimukticarya, attains the noble bhumi. From then on, the faults of samsara never arise, and thus it becomes extremely pure. The distinction of the qualities of attaining that bhumi is: The dharmadhatu is without distinction in all dharmas such as the dharmas of ordinary beings and the dharmas of noble ones, becoming equality, and at the time of attaining that bhumi, it is directly realized. Constantly towards all sentient beings, one attains a mind of equality or sameness without any difference from oneself. Therefore, understanding the five kinds of equality is: understanding that sentient beings are equally without self, and that the suffering of all sentient beings who experience suffering due to ignorance is equally to be abandoned, and that the arising of karma and afflictions of those sentient beings is equally to be done away with, and that one's own entry into the path and attainment of cessation, although beneficial to oneself, does not expect a return, just as guiding other sentient beings into the path of cessation and bestowing benefits is also like being inseparable from one's own benefit, this son of the Victorious One treats sentient beings equally without expecting a return, and other sons of the Victorious One who have attained the noble bhumi are equal or the same in abandonment and realization. Having thus explained the way of acting for the benefit of others, the distinction of realization by wisdom is: The bodhisattva who has attained the first bhumi sees all the conditioned dharmas of the three realms, such as the five aggregates of the desire and form realms and the four aggregates of the formless realm, as merely mind and mental factors, which are the unreal pervasive conceptions in the minds of sentient beings. Apart from mind and mental factors, he does not see any dharma, but only sees it as mind. He sees it with the wisdom of post-meditation purity. As it is said in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis: 'O sons of the Victorious One, these three realms are only mind.' Thus it is said. With what wisdom does he see? He sees with non-conceptual wisdom, which is extremely pure of obscurations, and with the meaning of non-duality of grasping and clinging. In the equipoise of non-conceptual wisdom, he does not perceive self and other, nor does he perceive only mind, it is as clear as the face of the sky.

Although there is no grasper and grasped, the meaning of such realization, that is, the subsequent wisdom, even though there is only mind, the mind itself appears as various dharmas, like dreams and illusions. Those bodhisattvas who have attained the path of seeing, because they directly see that the nature of grasper and grasped is completely established as non-existent, therefore they are liberated from the dharmas to be abandoned by the path of seeing, so at this time it is definitely called attaining the path of seeing. Furthermore, those who have attained the path of seeing are called knowing the three emptinesses, that is, the subsequent pure worldly wisdom or the wisdom that distinguishes what is to be known, knowing that the emptiness of the imputed is like a snake on a rope, without substance; similarly, for the dependent, although it does not exist like the characteristics grasped by children, it knows the emptiness of the dependent nature that exists as the basis of appearance; and because the perfectly established is from the beginning free from grasper and grasped, therefore it knows the self-nature emptiness, so the one on the path of seeing is called knowing emptiness. Having thus explained the emptiness samadhi among the three samadhis, the basis or object of the signless samadhi is that, for the dharmas from form to nirvana, the cessation of the truth of the complete exhaustion of the discriminations of that and that characteristic, that is, in the Compendium of Abhidharma it is also said: "The characteristic of the truth of cessation, where it ceases is suchness, by what it ceases is the truth of the path, what ceases is the cessation of discriminations." Thus it is explained. The basis or object of the wishless samadhi is the untrue imputed, the impure dependent. This untrue discrimination is the basis of the seeds of the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge, and is the cause of various sufferings such as birth and old age, so it is not a place to be desired, but is taken as an object. Any son of the Buddha, whatever is in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, such as the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, etc., all the various dharmas of the path of enlightenment, are also constant, that is, inseparably together with the path of seeing that has the nature of sixteen moments of forbearance and knowledge.
