causing beings to be filled with joy and happiness, and bodhisattvas, whether seen or unseen, protect from fear, therefore, causing fear and terror through beatings and the like is contradictory. Therefore, from the bottom of one's heart, with unwavering and unfeigned love and great compassion, without abandoning all sentient beings, and with non-discriminating wisdom, abandoning attachment to the duality of samsara and nirvana, this is the supreme practice of a bodhisattva. Third, showing how to practice through examples: Like a sick person to good medicine. From "Like a sick person to good medicine" to "How and where does one wish to practice?" is shown. A bodhisattva, for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment, consciously takes birth in samsara, and without being attached to samsara, eliminates the suffering of sentient beings and accomplishes benefit and happiness. Just as sick people diligently take good medicine to cure their illness, even knowing the bitterness and unpleasantness of the medicine, they rely on it diligently to cure their illness. Similarly, bodhisattvas, knowing the suffering of samsara, willingly take it upon themselves, so that the disease of the two obscurations is completely pacified, and for the sake of attaining the great enlightenment where the two benefits are spontaneously accomplished, they enter samsara but do not abandon samsara. To a sick person who is exhausted and suffering, a compassionate and virtuous doctor administers medicine that is combined with the disease. Similarly, in order to pacify the disease of afflictions in sentient beings, they administer the medicine of the sacred Dharma and accomplish various beneficial deeds. Just as an unruly servant who is not employed is made to be employed through beatings and the like, in the same way, when one's own mind is under the control of afflictions and becomes wild, or when weariness arises in the purpose of sentient beings, one should diligently subdue one's own evil thoughts through proper mindfulness. This is like the example of taming a horse as described in the Heap of Jewels Sutra. Just as merchants transform even a small item of merchandise into a large profit in order to support their children and retinue, bodhisattvas similarly rely on the desired enjoyments that they possess and use the merchandise of giving.

Accumulating perfect merits and resources, completely giving them to all sentient beings, and accomplishing benefit and happiness, this is the practice of generosity. Just as dyers diligently wash clothes and repeatedly dye them with colors, so too, purifying one's own actions of body, speech, and mind, cleansing the ten non-virtuous actions, and diligently practicing the ten virtuous actions, this is the practice of discipline. Just as a young, ignorant child may commit various minor transgressions, yet the father does not become angry but instead cherishes love, so too, with patience, even if sentient beings, under the influence of ignorance, commit various misdeeds, one does not retaliate, is without hatred, and instead increases compassion, striving to accomplish benefit. Just as one who seeks fire rubs a fire drill, and until the fire arises, diligently and continuously exerts effort, so too, until virtue is perfected, one does not give up halfway, but constantly strives with great diligence. Just as one entrusts all treasures and possessions to a trustworthy person, who, although able to take them at will, does not take even a little for their own benefit, so too, a Bodhisattva, in order to perfect the samadhi of higher mind training, even though able to perfectly accomplish it, does not taste the flavor of meditative absorption. Just as magicians, with magical spells and substances, conjure various things such as horses and cattle, manifesting various appearances, but know that these are merely magical appearances and not truly existent, so too, although Bodhisattvas practice the Paramitas, with the wisdom that fully knows the nature of all knowable things, they realize the union of the two truths. Thus, all those examples and connections that have been explained are how Bodhisattvas wish to practice the examples and their meanings. Third, summarizing the meaning. As stated above, constantly practicing the immeasurable Paramitas with vast diligence, striving to ripen the two accumulations or the two benefits of oneself and others, that is, from the path of accumulation, gradually eliminating the defilements of the afflictive and cognitive obscurations, and with the supreme wisdom that does not discriminate in the three spheres, reaching the ten Bhumis.
