The order arises continuously, just as the second and other remaining grounds. Practice the Dharma that has been seen and is in accordance with it. Thus, the sutras speak of five aspects of practice, in accordance with which, from the stage of faith to the tenth ground, the general way of practicing is shown. Specifically, there are three explanations: the conditions for practice, the nature of practice, and how to practice, shown by examples. First, the favorable conditions for practice are the four great wheels: residing in a favorable place, relying on a holy person, having good aspirations oneself, and having the karmic residue of past meritorious deeds. If one possesses these four, practice will become perfect, so they are explained. As for the place, it means that in whatever place the wise person practices, the necessities of life can be easily obtained with little effort, and there are no unruly people, ferocious beasts, poisonous insects, etc., so the place is excellent. Also, the land and water are suitable, do not cause disease, and there are no scabies or other such things, so the good land is pleasing to the mind. Furthermore, there are good virtuous friends who have the same discipline and view, and whatever obstructs the practice of meditative concentration, such as the comings and goings of people during the day, and the loud noises at night, etc., there are no thorns of meditative concentration, and it possesses the qualities of comfortable practice. If one resides in such a place, yoga will increase, but the opposite will become an obstacle to practice, so one should first examine the place and be careful, and should not start practicing arbitrarily. Relying on a holy person as a friend is the supreme cause of all qualities. What are the characteristics of a holy person? It means that a Bodhisattva who has entered the Great Vehicle has heard a great deal of the Dharma of scripture, and has understood the truths of the Dharma of realization, and sees its meaning. He is skilled in speaking or explaining the Dharma to others, and is loving towards others, and is not tired of doing things for others. One should know that such a holy person is a great virtuous friend to rely on. What is a good aspiration for oneself? It means that the practitioner himself strives for the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, and focuses on the three wisdoms, so the focus is excellent. One should not be satisfied with small roots of virtue, but how should one

Relying well on accumulation of wisdom, and when the mind becomes agitated and distracted, considering it a fault and abandoning it by attending to the characteristics of calm abiding; and when the mind becomes萎靡 and沉闷, contemplating the qualities of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the benefits of samadhi, and the self and common characteristics of all dharmas, thereby uplifting the mind, this is cultivating the characteristics of vipassana to abandon萎靡; and when there is neither萎靡 nor agitation, then in that state, cultivate the characteristics of equanimity, remaining immovable in that state. Thus, the three characteristics of calm abiding, vipassana, and equanimity are the excellent means for yogis to cultivate, and one should be in accordance with them. Not being content with one's own state, but ensuring that the bhumis and paths progress further and further, or become more profound, is excellent. This path always enters through the gate of calm abiding and vipassana, which is the nature of excellent union. Thus, to focus one's mind single-pointedly on the meaning of possessing the nature of the five excellences, or to be equipped with the armor of aspiration, is to aspire well for oneself. Due to the power of having done good deeds in the past, one now dwells in such a suitable place, and encounters spiritual friends and the Dharma, etc., thereby finding joy in the heart; having been born in a state of leisure, having abandoned the eight unfavorable conditions; being free from illness in the body and able to engage in the Dharma; having a mind capable of samadhi; and possessing the wisdom to distinguish the meaning of the two truths, the cause of these five is: having done good deeds in past lives, the fruit of which is now manifest, just as fire is seen from smoke, one can be certain of past good deeds. Secondly, the essence of the Mahayana practice is the wisdom of non-objectification and the great compassion of not abandoning all sentient beings, therefore, in explaining it, first a brief exposition is given, and then it is explained again in detail, divided into two parts. First, with the three verses beginning with "The realm of Dharma is," it is shown that the wisdom of non-objectification is cultivated by viewing samsara as a fault, and not specifically abandoning afflictions. With the two verses beginning with "Sentient beings are," it is shown that abandoning sentient beings and entering into peace alone contradicts the practice of the Mahayana. Therefore, if these are explained together, then for the inferior
