The laziness of not being interested in teaching the Dharma, and when teaching the Dharma, not understanding it oneself as it is, or not clearly explaining the words or meaning, causing the listeners to not understand the Dharma to be understood, and not wanting to teach the Dharma, therefore not opening the occasion for teaching the Dharma, and being uncertain or not definitive, not teaching the definitive Dharma but teaching the provisional, or not explaining in detail, causing others to be uncertain of its meaning, and even if taught, not cutting off the doubts that cause the disciples to hesitate, and not repeatedly confirming and explaining through various means to make them free from doubt, and feeling weary due to the perception of difficulty in teaching the Dharma, and being stingy with the Dharma and concealing it, these are considered faults in speech, because these eight situations are completely absent, therefore the Buddha's teaching of the Dharma is unsurpassed. These latter eight situations also show no laziness from the aspect of avoiding the opposite of the former eight situations. Being associated with reason, it makes the meaning understandable. Opening the occasion, thereby showing it concisely. By explaining in detail, it avoids uncertainty. Directly cutting off doubts. Explaining it repeatedly. By elaborating in detail, it shows no weariness in understanding. By stating the beginning, it shows no stinginess in understanding. There is such a combination, which seems appropriate in meaning. In the 'Treatise on the Steadfast Mind,' such a combination is not seen for this purpose. Fourth, the excellent Dharma to be explained includes the general characteristics of the Dharma, and the explanation of the hidden meaning and the specific hidden meaning. First, it is shown through two verses such as 'faith and joy,' what is meant by the excellent Dharma? Possessing three virtues, two goodnesses, and four qualities is called the excellent Dharma, the scripture spoken by the Tathagata. What are they? When listening to the excellent Dharma, because it is the cause of generating faith, the Dharma is initially virtuous. When thinking, because it is the cause of obtaining certainty and generating joy, the middle is virtuous. When practicing, because it is the cause of producing correct wisdom, the end is virtuous. Therefore, this excellent Dharma is only virtuous and good in the beginning, middle, and end. The two goodnesses are the two meanings of the conventional truth and the ultimate truth to be understood.

That which is not inverted and possesses correct display is excellent in meaning, and that which is easy to understand or grasp because it is displayed with perfect words and letters in accordance with the etymology of languages widely known in the world is excellent in wording. The pure conduct with four qualities, namely the noble path, is shown by the Dharma of the scriptures. "Pure" here refers to Nirvana, as it is said in the sutras: "Has become pure, has become cool, has entered Nirvana." The noble path that leads to the attainment of Nirvana is called pure conduct. That noble path possesses four qualities: that noble path is unique to this Dharma, and is not shared by other non-Buddhists, etc., outside of this Dharma, possessing the characteristic of being unmixed; the noble path completely abandons all the afflictions of the three realms, therefore it is complete; worldly paths, even if they reach the peak of existence, will eventually regress, while the noble path is the complete path that permanently abandons all the afflictions of the three realms. That noble path, like the sky and crystal, is naturally pure, being of the nature of non-leakage, therefore it is completely pure; this path removes sudden stains and makes the mind not arise again, becoming of the nature of non-leakage, therefore it is completely purified, and is considered to possess the four qualities of pure conduct. The Tathagatas teach the Dharma in accordance with the faculties, inclinations, and tendencies of the beings to be tamed, and because there are many teachings based on intentions in the manner of hidden meanings and provisional meanings, if these intentions are not properly understood, and are grasped only according to the literal meaning, the correct ultimate meaning will not be realized. If one understands them in a reversed manner according to the provisional guiding meaning and the literal meaning, then it is extremely important to distinguish these, therefore the four hidden meanings, the four intentions, and the benefits of teaching the eight antidotal intentions are explained, totaling three teachings. The first is: the hidden meaning of guiding the individual, the hidden meaning of guiding the characteristics of the Dharma, the hidden meaning of guiding the antidote to subdue the faults in the continuum of the beings to be tamed, and the meaning shown by words and letters is different from the meaning commonly understood in the world.
