Like the example of a frog in a well, or like a blind person competing with someone with sight, it is extremely foolish to use one's own immature wisdom as proof, thereby refuting correct cognition. If someone is inclined to inferior thoughts, and their roots or boundaries are also extremely low, and they are surrounded by inferior companions who hate the Mahayana, then if they do not believe in this Dharma, which is so profound and vast and expounded without error, that itself proves the excellence of this Dharma. Because it is not a realm that inferior beings can understand, wise people know that this is an uncommon Dharma. After hearing, if one can obtain the wisdom to slightly discern right from wrong, then one should not easily deny profound truths that one did not understand before without thinking. If someone hears other teachings that have not been tested by the Mahayana and then despises them, that is unreasonable. Why? Because you yourself have not understood the immeasurable and boundless meanings of the Mahayana Dharma, and there are still many unknown areas. You ignorant person, how can you determine whether this is non-Dharma? Because without truly understanding its meaning, you cannot determine the criteria for acceptance and rejection. The sutras say that if you only understand the meaning of formlessness, soundlessness, etc., according to the surface of the words, and think that you have completely understood or comprehended it, this is not understanding the true intention of the Buddha, and thus leads to misunderstanding. In this way, arrogance will arise, and because you have not truly understood its meaning, wisdom will decline. And because of relying on this, you will also abandon other well-spoken words. Therefore, you will go to ruin. Why? Because generating hatred towards the profound Dharma will accumulate serious karmic obscurations. The reason is that anger, this mental fault, is inherently malicious. Unlike the actions of body and speech, which can be changed by motivation and other factors, it is an essential fault. Therefore, one should not generate anger towards unpleasant or harmful factors, or unreasonable images, such as burning logs. Just as the Hinayana scripture, the Soglie Sutra, says: "Monks, one should not generate anger even towards a piece of wood burned by fire, let alone a sentient body?"

Therefore, it goes without saying that one should not be angry at a Dharma about which one has doubts, without having determined whether the Dharma is correct or not. Furthermore, if one abandons the correct Mahayana Dharma, the Blessed One has said that one will repeatedly experience unbearable suffering in the Avici hell, passing through many kalpas of formation and destruction in numerous world realms. Therefore, those who wish themselves well should not denigrate any Dharma they have not understood through anger and contempt, even if they have not developed faith in it. It is better to remain neutral, as there is no fault in doing so. This concludes the detailed explanation of the meaning of the second chapter, the chapter on practicing the Mahayana, from the Ornament of the Mahayana Sutras. Chapter Three: Taking Refuge Thus, having established the Mahayana, in order to understand the specific differences between the Mahayana and Hinayana, although there are many ways to differentiate them, the explanation of the differences between the four from taking refuge to practice is to understand that all thoughts and actions are incorporated into the differences, starting from taking refuge as the initial entry point of the cause, lineage, and path. Secondly, in order to understand the specifics, there are four: taking refuge, lineage, generating bodhicitta, and practice. First, there are two: the characteristics and the nature of taking refuge that possesses those characteristics, showing the meaning in brief. First, the four characteristics are shown in brief. There are two explanations that elaborate on their meaning. First, "universally going" and so on, are two verses. The refuge of the Mahayanists is superior due to four characteristics: universally going by engaging in liberating all sentient beings, and promising to attain Buddhahood, realizing the two selflessnesses, and overpowering worldly beings and Hearers and Solitary Realizers, that is, by the characteristics of the four aspects of the nature of differentiation. For the sake of the meaning or manner of the supreme vehicle, or for the sake of... what is it that is fully taking refuge in the Three Jewels? It is said to be superior to those who take refuge in worldly deities such as Brahma and Ishvara, and those Hearers and Solitary Realizers who take refuge in the Three Jewels for their own benefit. Because, individual ordinary beings, first, in order to liberate all sentient beings from samsara and place them in the state of liberation and omniscience, I
