Since there are no limbs, it also does not have limbs. The perception of limbs as parts of a chariot arises from the attachment of having seen a chariot before. If one does not understand a chariot, one would not perceive those as its limbs. Just as there are no limbs when a chariot is burned, when the fire of wisdom burns the chariot with limbs, one understands the limbs, because these two are interdependent, so one does not perceive the existence of limbs. Therefore, it is like searching for cotton threads in the ashes of burned cloth. Secondly, in refuting the example, there are two ways: the way in which the establishment of conventions is very reasonable even without inherent existence, and the way in which ultimate truth is realized. First, just as a chariot is designated based on spokes and so on, and spokes and so on are the proximate causes and the chariot is what is proximately taken, similarly, the conventional truth that is known in the world, the five aggregates such as form, the six elements such as the eye, and likewise the six sense bases, are relied upon. The self that is imputed is also considered to be the proximate cause of the aggregates and so on. Because the function of the proximate cause is the five aggregates, and this self is also the agent. Secondly, there are two: realizing the view of the path that is free from permanence and annihilation, and showing that the fruit of liberation is attained. First, because it is merely imputed, that self is not an existent entity, therefore it is not permanent, existing before and not changing later. If it were, it would have to be a permanent entity different from the aggregates, but that does not exist. Because it is not one with the aggregates, it is not impermanent, like the aggregates, having arising and ceasing, therefore this self is neither arising nor ceasing. For this self, permanence and impermanence, both two and not two, and so on, do not exist, because the self is not the same as the aggregates, so there is no impermanence, instability, and so on, and it is not established as a separate entity, so there is no permanence, and so on. Secondly, there are three ways: because it is merely imputed, it is able to refute the object of the coemergent ego-grasping, and the way in which the concept of "mine" also does not exist because it is refuted, and if both do not exist, then liberation is reasonable. First, if it does not exist in the seven extremes, then one might wonder what is grasped at. Based on what basis does the mind of ego-grasping always arise in beings, and whatever is related to its continuum, etc., wherever the mind of grasping at "mine" arises, that self, without investigation, is known in the world as

Therefore, the designation of external objects arises from ignorance, not from its own nature. Because it is established in this way, it can refute external objects. Secondly, just as there is no pot without a maker, so too, since there is no agent, there is no object to be done as its action. Therefore, my possessions cannot exist without a master who controls them. Thirdly, therefore, one should contemplate that self and what belongs to self are empty of inherent existence. By familiarizing oneself with this emptiness, the yogi will be liberated from the bonds of samsara. If you understand these points, you will have faith in the meaning that all phenomena are merely nominal designations, and you must thoroughly investigate them. Secondly, the reasoning that proves that self and chariot are merely imputed is compared to other things. Comparing with other things is divided into comparing with parts and wholes such as pots and blankets, and comparing with cause and effect. First, pots, blankets, carpets, armies, forests, garlands, trees, houses, chariots, and small chariots, that is, small carts that can hold three or four tea sets, and objects such as inns, and also relying on limbs, through what reasons, the things that people say, should also be understood like chariots, and do not analyze the worldly establishments, because the Thubwang (Buddha) said: I argue with the world, I do not argue with the world, because he said that it exists in the world, so do not argue with the world. Parts such as pottery and qualities such as white, as well as desires and bloating, etc., and firewood, etc. that can be burned, as well as conch shells, etc. that have qualities, and pots that have parts, and desire is the basis of desire, and pots, etc. are characteristics, and combustibles such as fire, etc., these meanings are mutually dependent, so analyzing these as chariots, if you look for them in the seven aspects, you will not find them. Relying on the imputation other than the ultimate analysis, it exists through the way of worldly fame. Secondly, it is divided into reality and refuting the controversy that is the same as itself. First, if cause and effect are established by nature, ask which comes first and refute it, and ask whether cause and effect are combined or not combined to produce and refute it, and if cause and effect are not established as one
