Also because it is not something else. Second, divided into: a general explanation of the twenty views of the perishable aggregate, and showing that these all abide on the root view of the perishable aggregate and are imputed. Two types. First, form itself is not self, and self is not possessed of form, although not the dependent and the depended upon, it is also not possessed of its own nature. There is no self on form, and there is also no form on self, because these two are mutually dependent. Just as they do not exist in four ways, so too should the other four aggregates be known, these are considered to be the twenty views of self. Second, the mountain of views of self is destroyed by the vajra of wisdom that realizes no-self, the coemergent clinging to self and the twenty views will also perish together. The root view of the perishable aggregate, abiding on the dense mountain of coemergent views, on top of that, the peak of imputation becomes high, these are the twenty views of the perishable aggregate. Third, refuting the inexpressible self, divided into: stating the prior position, and refuting it. First, some of the Vaibhashikas of our own school, who revere mothers and many children, assert that the inexpressible person is substantially existent, that is, the self and the aggregates are the same or different, permanent or impermanent, etc., whichever side is never reasonable, saying that the self exists as the basis of karma and its result. They consider that self to be the object of knowledge of the six consciousnesses, and also consider it to be the object or basis of coemergent self-grasping. If asked by which object-possessing consciousness that self is apprehended, if it falls into the aspect of each consciousness, it will be limited to its own object, and it cannot be said to exist without being apprehended by an object-possessor, therefore, it is not different from the five aggregates, but is known by all six consciousnesses. To this, they think that just as milk has color, smell, taste, and touch, therefore it becomes the object of multiple senses. Some translate it as "by the sixth consciousness," which is irrelevant. Because the person is not knowable from the aspect of his own entity, but is recognized through the way of making the six sense bases, such as form, as objects. Second, divided into: if it is established as real, then it becomes speakable, therefore refuted; if it is inexpressible, then it becomes not real, therefore refuted; therefore, since it is separated from the two qualities of reality, therefore it cannot be established as real, so there are three refutations. First, because mind is different from form, therefore if one cannot understand that mind is other and inexpressible, one can understand that it is different, and is real.

If it exists, then the inexpressible realization is not, because it can be spoken of in any case. If some "I" were to be established as real, because it is a real thing that exists like the mind, it would not become inexpressible. Second, because the pot you speak of is also not a self-sufficient real entity, therefore, from its basis of designation—form, etc.—it becomes impossible to say whether it is one or different, by that reasoning of transformation, I, from the aggregates, also become impossible to say whether it is one or different, do not think or realize that it is established as real. Third, your consciousness does not want to be other than its own self-nature, but it considers it to be a real thing other than form, etc., and all real phenomena will show those two forms, therefore, the inexpressible self does not exist, because it is separated from the characteristics of real phenomena, just as fire is not possible without heat. Second, in merely showing that the self is dependent and designated, although the self does not exist in the seven extremes, it shows that dependent designation is like a chariot, thereby showing that other things are also such designations. Of the two, first, there is the reality of dependent designation, and the benefit of knowing it as such. First, there is the way of selflessness with examples, and the way of the chariot corresponding to it. First, if analyzed, it is unreasonable for a person to exist as a substance, therefore, the basis of clinging to self is not a substance, that is, it is not established as real. If analyzed, I am not other than the aggregates, nor is it the nature of the aggregates, that is, it is not any one component, I am not existing in the basis of the aggregates, nor am I related to those aggregates, but I am merely established by relying on the aggregates. Second, there are two types: general and specific. First, if explained with an example, a chariot is not considered to exist outside of its basis of designation—wheel spokes, etc.—because it does not exist without relying on it. It is not other, nor is it one, because it does not exist in each one. Nor is it related to those limbs, because it is neither one nor different. The chariot does not rely on those limbs, nor do those limbs rely back on the chariot, because they are not other than each other. The limbs are assembled, that is, they have a collection.
