Now, let's examine. Although there's no reason to say there's a difference between not apprehending true existence and not apprehending, just as there's a difference in how these two are expressed, it's impossible to prove that there's a difference in meaning. If you say, just as you say, "This place, as a subject, has no pot, because it's not apprehended by valid cognition," on the object to be negated, the pot, you negate the true existence that is to be negated, because the pot exists conventionally, while true existence doesn't exist conventionally, there's such a difference. In terms of analyzing the meaning, although you don't need another proof of not apprehending true existence that goes beyond not apprehending the pot, the fact that the pot is not apprehended becomes the meaning that the pot doesn't have true existence, rather than becoming the meaning that there's no pot. If you think that although you're negating the absence of a pot in your statement, you're negating true existence in your understanding, if in your understanding you're negating true existence, then you're also ultimately negating the pot. Therefore, although the pot doesn't exist ultimately, it exists conventionally, and although the pot doesn't have inherent existence, the pot exists in a way that it doesn't have inherent existence, and so on. All of these must be admitted in this way, so it's difficult to distinguish. In this way, there's no fault in admitting self-emptiness, because the pot's lack of inherent existence is called self-emptiness. Although you negate it as if you're negating the absence of a pot conventionally, it becomes the meaning of negating inherent existence. Therefore, although you admit self-emptiness, this is just a difference in the intention of expression in your mind. If it doesn't become that meaning, then the difference in understanding that negates true existence is also impossible. Furthermore, if you admit that what's not measured by ultimate truth intelligence doesn't exist conventionally, like a rope that's empty of a snake, the rope exists, but there's no snake there. Just as a place is empty of a pot, the pot that is to be negated exists, and admitting that there's no true existence is the same in all aspects. Like this, the emptiness of something that's not empty by itself but empty by another, establishing emptiness in this way, for phenomena that exist conventionally, clinging to this and that, and because of its influence, generating attachment and aversion, etc., cannot be prevented. Therefore, what benefit is there for those to be tamed? Like this, saying that a pot is without truth doesn't negate the pot's own characteristic conventionally. Similarly, for the pot's dharma of arising and ceasing, there's no true arising of the pot, there's conventional arising; there's no true ceasing, there's conventional ceasing. Therefore, for the subject, the pot, and its dharma of arising, ceasing, and impermanence, etc., you must combine them in this way, and to

Even if we allow that the object to be refuted, such as truly existent arising, does not exist, still the three characteristics of conventional reality—arising, ceasing, and abiding—as well as impermanence and other phenomena, and the subjects possessing those phenomena, such as vases, would become existent as conventionally self-characterized entities. If they exist as self-characterized entities, then clinging to them as such would become the object of innate grasping at truth. One-sided afflictions such as attachment and aversion would be irreversible. Since conventional phenomena do not abandon their own characteristics and abide by their own nature, Although it seems that there is no fault in saying that true existence is refuted, it is simply that one has not realized that the meaning itself has become established as truly existent by its own character. The reason why the Svātantrikas assert that things are established by their own character is the same reason why the Prāsaṅgikas push them into true existence. If you were to refute the self-character of convention, then convention would cease to exist. The arising in convention is the arising of convention or the self-character of arising. If that does not exist, then convention would cease to exist. If you think that way, then the wisdom that analyzes reality has refuted the arising of true existence, but it has not refuted the self-characterized arising of convention. Because of that, it cannot be found as ultimately true by analysis, but it is impossible to find it in convention. If ordinary beings of the world do not grasp at another arising to be refuted by the wisdom that analyzes reality other than this self-characterized arising of convention, then there is no need to refute it. Grasping at this self-characterized arising of convention, thinking that it exists as it appears, is what is grasped as self. And that is also the reason why it cannot be found ultimately. Therefore, if analyzed by the wisdom that analyzes reality, there is no arising in either of the two truths. It is not permissible to say that the self-character of convention has not been refuted. Secondly, if you say that there must be other-arising in convention, then when you analyze from what source these things arise from any of the four extremes from just seeing these conditions, then since that itself is not other or on the other side from the entity that is the nature of the unborn, and it is not finding the place of arising etc., therefore, for the conventional truth of the world, one should not analyze arising from self and other etc., because if one analyzes in that way, the conventional reality of the world will not be established. Then, will convention be interrupted? If you think that way, since the arising etc. of convention cannot be found ultimately, how could convention be interrupted? As it is said in the scripture, "That is unborn, the world should arise." Like that, in the world, no one can deny that there is an appearance of arising due to the power of dependent origination. You,
