Even if not observed, there is no need to mention observing in worldly conventions. As it is said, "That which is unborn acts as the birth of worldly beings." If clinging to the view of the proponents of inherent existence, if it does not exist in the ultimate sense, it should not exist in worldly conventions either. If it exists and is observed in conventions, it should not be non-existent in the ultimate sense. If it is said that whatever exists in conventions must exist in the ultimate sense, then if you can establish something that can withstand scrutiny through this reasoning of ultimate analysis, then whatever exists in conventions will be proven to exist in the ultimate sense. If it is said that whatever is not observed or established by it must not exist in conventions, then if you can prove that all these appearances of worldly conventions do not appear in conventions, if whatever is refuted by the ultimate truth will not exist in conventions, then what can withstand the scrutiny of ultimate analysis cannot be established not only by you, the proponent of inherent existence, but also by the gods and the entire world. Therefore, there is not a single phenomenon that is not refuted by the reasoning of ultimate analysis or by the way it is not found, and the fact that what is refuted by it does not appear in conventions cannot be established by the gods and the entire world. Therefore, the Victorious, Perfectly Awakened Buddha said: The nature of this infallible appearance is emptiness, and although it does not transcend emptiness, the appearance of worldly conventions appears infallibly. Therefore, emptiness and dependent arising are of one essence. Thus, proclaiming the lion's roar of the path of reasoning, in the world with gods, it is impossible to surpass it and argue. Therefore, just like that path, one should hold to what is taught by the Madhyamaka treatises. If one's own mind cannot effortlessly manifest emptiness and dependent arising, then adding what does not appear in the sutras and treatises to the words that suit one's own mind, although it seems comfortable in one's own mind for a while, any commitment that contradicts the way taught by the sutras and great treatises will inevitably suffer the harm of irrefutable reasoning. Therefore, if teaching Madhyamaka, one should, like the terminology of the Madhyamaka sutras and great treatises, from the path of reasoning, similarly generate certainty, and unerring wisdom will definitely arise. When proponents of inherent existence and Madhyamikas debate whether this commonly appearing vase is truly established, the vase, as the subject of debate, is not truly existent, because the ulti-

Because the measure of ultimate analysis does not perceive it. It is written, etc., that the existence of a pot in common appearance, this negation is to establish that it does not exist in the ultimate sense, or to establish that it is not true. Therefore, the pot is not refuted, but is established as a subject, and for it, it is necessary to establish the predicate to be established, that is, that it does not exist in the ultimate sense, or to establish that true establishment does not exist. Therefore, the pot is not refuted, but true establishment is refuted. Through this method, nominal existence is established without fault or harm. However, after thinking about this statement, if one thinks that no phenomenon that exists nominally is to be refuted by ultimate analysis, and that only true establishment is to be refuted, then there is a fault in thinking that emptiness is realized by refuting the arbitrary object of negation. When arguing with realists, it is necessary to use nominal existence in this way, but if one asks: Why do you say that it does not exist in the ultimate sense and that true establishment does not exist? Because through reasons such as being separate from one and many, the pot that appears in common is established by not being perceived or not found, and there is no other reason besides this. Therefore, if the pot established in common appearance is not refuted by ultimate analysis, then there is absolutely no way to establish non-existence in the ultimate sense and non-true existence. Because the pot itself in common appearance will become existent in the ultimate sense and truly established. Therefore, saying that true establishment is the object of negation is because the pot in common appearance is not established as being able to withstand ultimate analysis, and there is nothing else besides this. Therefore, true establishment does not exist nominally, and the pot exists nominally, because these two are not one, so it is necessary to say that the object of negation is true establishment. However, the pot exists nominally, which is this that is established in common appearance, and true establishment does not exist, which means that it is not established as being able to withstand ultimate analysis. If it can withstand ultimate analysis, then it is true establishment, and if it does not, then it is non-true establishment. But in meaning, there is no object of negation called true establishment that is different from the pot, because the true establishment that is different from the subject pot is not the true establishment of the pot, therefore, refuting it does not establish that the pot is non-truly established. Because it is merely imputed by tenets, ordinary people do not grasp the true establishment of the pot that is other than the pot, although different opposites can be distinguished in words, but in meaning, it is impossible for the subject and its predicate to be established as different. Therefore, eliminating sound as permanent is not eliminating permanence that is different from sound, but sound itself is perma-
