If they don't depend on each other, like a vase and cloth, one doesn't exist without the other. If you need to grasp them separately and arbitrarily, that doesn't exist. If the goer and the going are considered different, then there would be going without a goer, and a goer without going, i.e., just a goer. If these two are neither the nature of the same thing nor the nature of different things, then how can these two have nature or things exist? It doesn't exist. Second, examining action is divided into two: examining from two aspects, and refuting from the perspective of various agents and objects. The first is: Again, thinking, as it is said in the world, the goer is Devadatta going, the speaker is speech, the doer is action, so the goer himself is going, so there is no fault as said. To this, if the goer and the act of going exist in essence, then which act of going can manifest and clearly show the goer? If it is such an act of going, then it does not make the goer go, because, because before the act of going arises, there is no goer, so which goer will go to which village or city? Because there is no act of going. Moreover, the act of going indicates the goer, so the two are simultaneous, so it is thought that there is no fault in indicating each other. This is not so, because before the act of going arises, it is not a goer, and when it arises and is able to act, the goer also arises and ceases together. Also, if going manifests the goer, then if it has already been established as a goer before going arises, then it will not become an agent, and if it is not a goer, then it can never indicate the goer. Because by examining in two ways, the nature of going that makes the goer exist cannot be found, so it cannot do the act of making that person newly appear as a goer. If the act of going manifests and indicates the goer, but not by another different thing that makes the goer go, that is not right, because for one goer, the act of indicating the goer himself and the act of going other than that, these two are unreasonable.

Secondly, becoming a walker, possessing the action of walking, that is, the object of walking, the three modes of having walked, not walked, and currently walking are not established. Because of being separated from the action of walking, one is not a walker, and these three modes of walking are also not established. Becoming both a walker and a non-walker, these three modes of walking are also not established. Regarding this, the Commentary says: The three modes of walking are the three of having become, not having become, and being both. In the eighth chapter, "Examination of Action and Agent," it says: Having become, there is no action, etc., will be explained. Buddhapālita says: He explains the three of having walked, not walked, and currently walking. Regarding this, becoming a walker, because one has already been established as a walker, therefore, examine as before. A non-walker does not walk in three ways, because he is separated from the action of walking, like a stayer. Being both, it is harmed by the reasoning of both sides, or it is impossible. Going outwards and coming merely arriving here, because both are walking, there is no need to separately analyze the coming. Secondly, summarizing the established meaning: Therefore, if examined in this way, neither the action of walking, nor the walker, nor the path to be walked exist. Therefore, walking from one place to another, etc., being established by nature is absolutely unreasonable. Just like the embossment of a seal from a seal, and the image in a mirror, etc., in short, this dharma comes from here, goes from here, all the doer and what is done, such as coming and going, are separated, and the wisdom light like the center of the sky has been clearly revealed. The second of the root verses is: "Examination of Walking and Coming," which is the second chapter. Thirdly, in the chapter on the examination of the twelve sources, the connection of the sutra is: In the sutra, it says that the eye is empty of the eye, etc. The connection of the chapter is: There are twelve sources, namely: seeing, hearing, smelling, and, feeling and touching the mind. That is, the six faculties such as the eye, and the six objects such as form that they perceive, there are twelve sources in total. If this is the case, then in order to explain this meaning, it is divided into two parts: explaining the meaning of the text in detail, and summarizing the meaning from the perspective of the name. The first part is divided into three aspects: refuting the view that the root is the seer, and refuting the view that the self or consciousness is the seer.
