Refutation, and also refuting others in that way. The first point is that, although walking and so on are refuted here, even so, the *Abhidharma* says: seeing, hearing, smelling, experiencing, touching, and mind, the six faculties such as the eyes, the objects of these, seeing form and so on, the six objects, that is, the twelve sources. If someone says, therefore they exist. That is not so, because saying that the eye is the seer, just as fire has heat and water has moisture, the eye itself has seeing, it must be established as self-existent without dependence. As the *Four Hundred Verses* says: The nature of all things, initially appears to itself, why does the eye not grasp with the eye itself? Therefore, if the eye looks at itself, then seeing can be established, but just as water has heat and fire has moisture, this is impossible, therefore the word seeing is not established at all. Therefore, it does not look at others, that is, the eye faculty that sees form, its own self is not seeing itself, because there is no object, or it is contradictory for oneself to do to oneself. Thus, those who do not look at themselves or are separated from seeing, how do they see other blue colors and so on, just like the ear. Although not looking at oneself, it is not contradictory to look at others, for example, fire does not burn itself, but burns other firewood. If someone thinks like this, then, in order to strongly prove that although not looking at oneself, but looking at others, the example of fire cited cannot be established, because in this way, measuring walking with the three ways of past and not past, using walking to measure the example of fire, and seeing is also dependently established in meaning, therefore answering with seeing answers in meaning. How is it? Fire also burns what can be burned, not burned, not yet burned, etc., the object of burning is firewood. Similarly, temporarily seeing and then not seeing, etc., the object of seeing is form, analyzing in the three times, the key to reasoning is the same. Also, temporarily the burner does not burn, etc., the agent of burning is fire. The seer does not see, etc., the agent of seeing is the eye, combining the three ways. At any time, not seeing oneself and others even slightly, that is not the seer. Therefore, seeing form with seeing that exists by nature, saying that

It is reasonable like a pillar. Therefore, if the eye has the nature of seeing, then being associated with the act of seeing is not seeing form, because the eye's nature is seeing, and it should not be associated with the act of seeing, because it would become two actions, and therefore it would also become two agents. If the eye does not have the nature of seeing, then it does not see, because it is separated from the act of seeing, like a fingertip. The second case is, just as Devadatta cuts a tree with an ax, if one thinks that the eye is only a condition, and the real seer is the self or consciousness. Know that by blocking the seeing itself, the way of reasoning that blocks the self or consciousness from being the seer has also been explained in detail, by translating "the seer's own nature, is not seeing itself" etc. to block it. If it is said again that there is a seer because there is its action and function. If it is said that if there is a seer, then it is reasonable to have its action and function, but that is not the case, thinking that there is an agent that depends on the act of seeing or does not depend on the act of seeing. If it is the first case, then there is no seer who does not abandon the act of seeing, or who depends on the act, because the seer depends on something whose nature has already been established or has not been established. It is contradictory for something that has already been established to depend on seeing, and something that has not been established does not depend on seeing, like a rabbit's horn. If it is the second case, then the existence of a seer who has abandoned the act of seeing is also unreasonable, because there is no seer who does not depend on the act of seeing, because it is separated from the act of seeing, like a flower in the sky. It is said. Thus, if there is no cause, the seer, then where do the objects, actions, and seeing eyes or actions that are seen by it exist? They do not exist. If it is said again that the objects and seeing nature exist, because the result of these two is consciousness, the contact of the three gatherings, the feeling arising from it, and the craving caused by it exist. If asked, is the example of this like a child being born relying on parents? As mentioned earlier, because both the object and seeing do not exist, the contact, feeling, and craving of the result consciousness, etc., do not exist either. Therefore, if we use words such as grasping, how can craving, birth, old age, and death exist? Because there is no cause. Third, in this way, others are also negated, just as it is said, through seeing, hearing
