As for dependence, there is not the slightest affliction in anything that is relied upon. Therefore, the basis of afflictions does not exist previously, and although there is no self, it arises dependent on the mind that has afflictions. If it is thought that the mind and afflictions arise simultaneously, then just as looking at oneself, it is impossible for afflictions to exist in five ways in the mind or continuum that has afflictions, just as looking at oneself, it is impossible for the mind that has afflictions itself to exist in five ways in afflictions. The self is a collection of aggregates such as form. Attachment to self and what belongs to self is the view of the perishable, that is, not the aggregates, nor different from the aggregates. As such, it is impossible to exist in five ways. Similarly, if the afflictions such as attachment that cause affliction, and the mind that is afflicted, are one, then it is the same as what can be burned and what burns being one; if they are different, then there is the fault of being independent, and the other three views such as possessing non-difference are refuted. Third, even if afflictions are stopped, the three causes such as likeable and dislikeable still exist. If these exist, then do afflictions that have causes also exist? That is not so, likeable, dislikeable, and perverted are produced by dependence, not established by nature. If afflictions that arise dependent on likeable, dislikeable, and perverted exist, then what are they? Therefore, they should not exist. Fourth, if it is said that afflictions exist because their objects exist, then the six objects such as form do not exist. The six objects, namely form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena, are the basis for the arising of afflictions. Dependent on this, attachment arises towards likeable things, hatred arises towards dislikeable things, and imputation of self and permanence etc. is the basis of ignorance. Even if you think so, just like hair seen by someone with blurred vision, form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena are merely imputed or appearances, even if they do not exist, the objects are like a Gandharva city, like a mirage and a dream. Second, showing the separate refutations, divided into two: refuting desire and hatred, refuting ignorance separately. The first is also divided into two: Refuting the causes likeable and dislikeable, refuting the result afflictions. The first is divided into two: refuting by the falsity of the basis, refuting by mutual dependence.

Firstly, how could there be true characteristics of beauty and ugliness in those false supports like illusory beings and reflections? Because their own characteristics are not established. Secondly, relying on what is unattractive, how can we establish something as beautiful? The unattractive itself, which serves as the basis, does not exist independently of beauty. Just like long and short, there is no basis for establishment. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that beauty exists inherently. Relying on what beauty can we distinguish what is unattractive? Because beauty does not exist independently of what is unattractive, therefore what is unattractive is also unreasonable. Secondly, refuting the result - afflictions: If the characteristic of reversal, beauty, does not exist, then how can attachment based on it exist? Similarly, if ugliness does not exist, then how can hatred exist? It will not exist. Secondly, specifically refuting ignorance, there are two parts: refuting the object of reversal, and the result established by refuting it. The first part has two parts: refuting the difference between reversal and non-reversal, and refuting the person who holds it. The first part has three parts: the object is the same whether it is established or not, the principle that the object is the same whether it exists or not, and even the mere grasping is not established. The first is: Thus, the cause of ignorance is the reversal of the five aggregates, thinking that they are permanent when they are destroyed every moment, thinking that the five aggregates are happiness when they are suffering, grasping purity in the impure body, and grasping self in what is not in accordance with the nature of the self. If one grasps permanence in the impermanent aggregates, and establishes it as reversal, then for the aggregates that are empty in nature, impermanence does not exist, so how can grasping permanence be reversed in nature for the aggregates? There is no reversal. Similarly, suffering and so on are also combined. The object, suffering, etc., does not exist, then their object, reversal, is also false. It is said. Therefore, their cause, ignorance, does not exist either. Secondly, in the other three commentaries, it says: "If impermanence, impermanence, such grasping is not reversed." It is said. But here, like the moon, "If one grasps permanence in impermanence, such grasping is reversed, but for emptiness, impermanence
