Now, whether it exists or does not exist, it is a refutation of those who speak of birth. Or, it is a refutation of those who consider putting the wisdom of a person first as the cause, or the naked ones who regard the seed and root consciousness as one. From the Commentary. From the Lamp of Wisdom: "If consciousness such as the eye arises, then is its object, such as form, seen?" etc. Although it is said like this, from "determining the basis where the action of the thing to be produced is applied," it seems to indicate that for all causes and effects, there is no "this is what I produced," etc. Just like a potter making a pot, neither of those two is the case, because if it is seen, there is no need, and if it is not seen, it is not appropriate to intervene, think like this. Therefore, the cause does not produce an effect on what is seen and not seen. Fourth, the refutation by examining meeting and not meeting: The past result and the past cause, the unborn future and the present born thing meeting together is impossible, because these three are in order both cause and effect have passed away and disappeared, and the result has passed away, the cause has not been born and disappeared, and the cause and effect time is inconsistent. Similarly, the present born result meeting with the unborn cause and the past cause and the present born cause is also impossible, because in order the cause has not been born and disappeared, the cause has passed away and disappeared, and even if the time is the same, there is no need to meet. Also, the unborn future result meeting with the born present cause, the unborn cause and the past cause is also impossible, because in order the time is inconsistent and the result has not been born and disappeared, both have not been born and disappeared, the result has not been born, and the cause has ceased and disappeared. Like this, no matter which one of the cause and effect, the past and future do not exist in the present, so it is impossible to meet. The cause and effect present also do not meet, because the cause and effect are simultaneous in time. Things that are inconsistent in time do not meet, because the time is not synchronized. Whatever does not meet, like light and darkness and the mountains of east and west, cannot become cause and effect, if it can, non-cause will become cause. Even if they meet, they cannot become cause and effect, because both exist independently. Therefore, if there is no meeting, how does the cause produce the result? It will not produce, and if it meets, also

It is impossible for a cause to produce a result in any way. Fifth, refuting by examining emptiness and non-emptiness: Does the result produce an empty cause, or a non-empty cause? If it is like the first case, if the result produces an empty cause, how does it produce a result? It's like water turning into ghee. If the result produces a non-empty cause, how does it produce a result? Because it is already established. This is on the side of the cause, and the above gathering is a different occasion, so I think it will not be repeated. Second, there are four ways to refute by examining the result: refuting by examining emptiness and non-emptiness, refuting by examining one and different, refuting by examining the existence or non-existence of self-nature, and refuting by examining the non-appearance of the pervasive. The first case is: before, it was examined from the side of the cause, and now it is examined from the side of the result. That is, does the result produce something with a non-empty self-nature, or does it produce something empty? If it is like the first case, the Prajñāpradīpa says: The Vaibhāṣikas think that before the result is produced, the result is not empty, or how? In any case, if the self-nature of the result is not empty, then it does not depend, and it will not be produced from any cause, and the non-empty thing will not change its self-nature, so it will not perish. In that case, the non-empty result will not perish, nor will it be produced, because they do not think so. If self-nature does not exist, how can an empty result be produced? Because there is no self-nature, how can emptiness have extinction? It's like a widow without a dead son. If you think that the result is emptiness, then such a result will also become imperishable and unproduced. The second case is: cause and effect can never be one. It is also impossible for cause and effect to be different in essence, this is the proposition. The reason is that if cause and effect are one, then the produced and the producer become one. If the two natures of cause and effect are different, then both cause and non-cause are the same. If cause and effect are one, then father and son and eye and eye consciousness will become one, and if they are different, then it is like darkness arising from a lamp that does not depend on it. The third case is: the result has its own self-nature
