Then, the fear of encountering death becomes immense, because even if one has not committed killing, the karma of not killing exists. Similarly, even if one has not abided in celibacy, for those who are completely pure celibates, the karma of not engaging in non-celibacy exists. Therefore, since everything abides in non-celibacy, no one can be liberated from suffering, which contradicts their own doctrines and sects. Brahman is nirvana, which arises from the practice of attaining it. Even if one has not committed non-virtuous deeds, the fear of encountering them becomes meaningless, and abiding in celibacy also becomes meaningless, etc. Therefore, the view that things exist inherently will not escape faults. Worldly conventions, such as making pottery, weaving cloth, farming, etc., will undoubtedly contradict themselves, because even if these results have not been produced, they already exist, and no new actions will ever arise. The distinction between beings who perform meritorious deeds and those who commit sins is also unreasonable, because all virtues and sins exist in all beings, and new virtues and sins cannot be produced. That karma, even the already ripened results, will ripen again and again, because if one admits that karma exists inherently, then, since the cause has not disappeared, the result will not disappear either. Third, refuting the proofs of true existence is divided into three parts: refuting the cause, afflictions; refuting the result, maturation; and refuting the enjoyer. The first part is: Karma exists because its cause, afflictions, exists; for something that does not exist, a cause is impossible, like a garment made of tortoise hair. If one thinks like this, then, how is it established that this karma is of the nature of depending on afflictions? By establishing the pervasion that "without afflictions, there is no contaminated karma," and by proving that the subject, dharma, is without afflictions, karma is also proven to be non-existent. Furthermore, these afflictions, which are the cause, arise dependently, therefore they are not truly existent. If afflictions are not truly existent, then how can karma, which has afflictions as its cause, be truly existent? The reason for the absence of afflictions is: because birth has already been refuted previously, and the nature of afflictions has already been refuted in the sixth chapter, and also below, because some afflictions will be prevented by suffering and unpleasantness, etc. The second part is:

If it is said that karma and afflictions exist because there is a body that is the result of their maturation, then, the sutras state that karma and afflictions are merely nominal causes of the bodies of maturation, but not ultimately. If karma and afflictions have already been shown to be empty of inherent existence, how can they be said to be the cause of the body? If the cause—karma and afflictions—are empty, how can the body be said to be their result? It should not be said so, because it is unreasonable. Third, refuting enjoyment: If it is said that karma exists because there is an enjoyer of its result, if there is no karma, who will enjoy its result? It is like a mango in the sky. Then, this does not exist. Because the so-called enjoyer refers to sentient beings whose eyes of wisdom are obscured by ignorance and who are bound by attachment to objects. They are the enjoyers of the ripened results of contaminated karma. Moreover, the enjoyer is not different from the agent, and the enjoyer itself is not the agent. Because the agent and maturation cannot exist simultaneously, and it is impossible for maturation to occur outside of the agent. That is what I think. If it is said that karma exists because there is an enjoyer who cannot be said to be the same or different, then, this does not exist. Because this karma is not produced from conditions, but it has already been said to be produced from conditions. Moreover, there is no cause that is not produced from conditions. Because the examination of karma and the agent has already been refuted, therefore karma does not exist. Because karma does not exist, the agent also does not exist. If both the karma to be done and the agent do not exist, then where is the result produced from karma? It is like the fruit of a tree in the sky. If there is no edible fruit, then how can there be an enjoyer? Fourth, how to establish it in conventional terms: If you establish phenomena as being without inherent existence in this way, then, the Blessed One said that one experiences the ripened results of one's own actions, and you have become the chief of nihilists who slander the results of actions. Answer: Chandrakirti said in the Prasannapadā: We are not nihilists, we are refuting both existence and non-existence, thereby clarifying the path to the city of nirvana where there is no clinging to duality. We are not saying that there is no agent of karmic results.
