Clinging to self-nature, and the meaning of holding from bad destinies, and the meaning of holding from the cycle of the five paths, with these three, liberation and nirvana are established as Dharma, this is the intermediate one. The second is divided into two: brief explanation and detailed explanation. The first is: Thus, the sages who have understood the meaning of Suchness, the perfect Buddhas, have briefly summarized actions into two: mind is intention, and thought, that is, the actions of body and speech. The distinctions of those actions are also declared in various ways elsewhere, and will be explained. The second is: Among them, virtuous and non-virtuous speech, clearly uttering words and sentences, is the expressive action of speech, and the movement of virtuous and non-virtuous body, is the expressive action of body, these two. Also, completely not abandoning killing and so on, is non-expressive of non-discipline, and abandoning it, is non-expressive of discipline, these two. Also, the intermediate non-expression also has two types, virtuous and non-virtuous, that is, offering temples and so on to the Sangha, until the enjoyment is not exhausted, for the person who does this, the virtuous non-expression continues uninterrupted.

Mocking and answering refutations. First, if someone argues: if those karmas remain until the time of fruition, then the karmas become permanent; if the karmas cease, just as a sprout cannot grow from a burnt seed, how can a fruit be produced from something that has ceased to exist, from which nothing exists? Like this, for the argument raised by examining whether the cause of karma exists before the fruit ripens, in order to answer this question, even if the latter view is accepted, there is no fault, therefore some Śrāvakayāna schools admit permanence, and some admit non-perishing matter, thereby avoiding the fault of permanence and annihilation. The second aspect is divided into two: the expression of the refutation of the Sautrāntika school and the expression of the refutation of the Vaibhāṣika school. The first aspect is divided into two: the way to dispel permanence and annihilation, and the explanation of the fruits of karma. First, just as the continuation of sprouts, trunks, stems, leaves, etc., manifests from the existence of the initial seed, and the production of fruit from that continuation is concomitant, and if there is no seed, then the fruit, etc., will not be produced, which is contradictory, and in this way, cause and effect are established. The fault of permanence and annihilation does not arise, because continuation arises from the cessation of the seed, and fruit arises from the cessation of the continuation, and the seed must be before the fruit, therefore the fruit follows the cause, it is not annihilation, and the seed of the cause has ceased, so it is not permanent. Similarly, the continuation of good and evil minds manifests from the karma of thought, etc., and the production of the fruit of karma, happiness and suffering, from it is concomitant, and if there is no karma of thought, then the continuation of the fruit mind will not arise, which is necessarily contradictory. For this, because the continuation of good and evil minds arises from the karma of thought, etc., and the fruit of happiness and suffering arises from the continuation, the karma is before the fruit, and from the perspective of ceasing at the time of maturation, it is not annihilation, nor is it permanent. Second, when actually doing the essence of the path of karma, it is white karma, and when it is completed, it is Dharma, or the three of vows, altruism, and loving-kindness as mentioned earlier are called Dharma, or Dharma is.
