Does that 'is' exist for something that is 'other'? Does 'is' exist for something that is not 'other'? If 'other' has already been established, then that 'is' does not exist. If that 'is' intervenes in order to establish 'other', then if it is already established, 'other' is not needed, and if it is needed, it would lead to the fault of infinite regress. That 'is' also does not exist for something that is not 'other', because it exists in contradictory dharmas. If it exists, then 'other' and 'non-other' would become mutually confused. If there is 'other' apart from 'other' and 'non-other', that is impossible, because those two are directly contradictory. Even if everything is negated, only a mere 'other' exists. If that exists, then everything is also established, if you say so. If only a mere 'other' is established, then how are the distinctions of 'other' established? Like a leaf without a tree. If the generality called 'otherness' does not exist, then what is 'other'? Because the distinctions of 'other' are not 'non-other', that itself also does not exist. Second, because there is no one and many, meeting is unreasonable. Even if the establishing reason for meeting, 'other', does not exist, it is fine. If you say that because the meeting itself, which is to be established, is visible, therefore if that exists, then 'other' is also established. There is no meeting, because oneself does not meet oneself, and because the self-nature of 'other' is not established, therefore it does not meet that either. So what is called meeting? It does not exist. The thing to be met does not meet that itself, just as solitary milk that does not rely on water has no meeting. Even if 'other' and 'other' things are different, they will not meet, just as milk that exists independently of water does not meet water. Third, the summary meaning is that the self-nature of meeting, the act of meeting, the state of having met, and the one who meets also do not exist, because of the same reasoning. The second is called the examination of meeting, which is the fourteenth chapter. The fifteenth chapter, on the discourse examining existence and non-existence or self-nature. The connection of the sutra is the meaning of completely overwhelming with great power, that there is no existing thing that is cut off in form or an existing thing of realization, and so on. The connection of the discourse is that things have self-nature because they depend on causes and conditions. For something that does not exist, it is unreasonable to depend on conditions, like a flower in the sky. The protector (Nagarjuna) also said that all dharmas arise dependently, don't you also acknowledge that? If you ask this, the answer is that in ultimate truth, causes and conditions are not established, but in conventional truth, they arise in dependence on causes and conditions, like an illusion, therefore there is no self-nature. To explain this, there are two parts: the text and the name. The first
