They argue that since nothing exists, all nominal things will become slanderous wrong views. The previously cited scripture is a well-known teaching among the Hinayana schools. They understand that if something is false, it is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn. Although it is not established by its own nature, they consider the appearance to be false. They do not understand that the meaning of mere appearance can function nominally like an illusion. Therefore, you and those like you are deceived by the view that phenomena exist by their own nature, so they are called deceptive dharmas. If it is said that whatever becomes an entity that is a deceptive proof, its object to be proven is false and without self-nature, then what does that entity deceive? And what slander will it become against a non-existent thing? If, like this, it is said that deceiving something that exists by its own nature into thinking it does not exist is deception, it will become slander. But we never think that all things exist by their own nature, so how could it become slander against the state of things? Because it is self-deceptive or unestablished. That is to say, if one judges whether this is true or false, based on the existence of things as the basis of truth, and thinks that its opposite is false, it will appear as a form similar to slander, just like thinking that the gods have no eyes. If one thinks based on the non-self-nature of things, All things are established as the nature of self-falsehood, so how can it be slander to say that it is false? It is like saying that an image has no nature of form. If you say that this teaching does not show non-existence either, then what does this teaching show? The Blessed One said, "Whatever is conditioned is deceptive, that is false." What he said in that way is not showing that this does not exist, but is completely showing that what exists is emptiness of self-nature. Therefore, showing this deception as conventional truth is not slander against this state, but it is determining that this state is free from addition and subtraction. Like you, you think that deception means non-existence, then what deception is there? Because it does not exist, it is impossible to deceive anyone. Therefore, the gathering of non-existence and appearance.

Is that so? This is how one's own side explains it from the perspective of affirmation and negation. Here, it is not that one does not accept the meaning of deception, but that one accepts that there are things that have the nature of deception. Just as one does not accept that there are no illusory horses and cattle, but because they do not have the nature of horses and cattle, one accepts that they are deceptive. The second part has two aspects: stating the views of others and refuting them. The first is: They say that the Blessed One's statement that "all conditioned things are deceptive" is not, as you think, a statement of emptiness of inherent existence, but that those phenomena that have inherent existence as entities are said to be deceptive because they do not remain in the second moment of their own establishment but perish. The sutra also says, "This is deceptive, and this is of the nature of destruction." If it were not so, it would be unreasonable, because if there were no entity, the observation of transformation into another state would not be possible, and all phenomena would not be established as empty of a self of a person, because there is no basis for these two, just as it is not reasonable to see a blue lotus on the son of a barren woman. They think that things do not have the nature of being permanent or existing in their own nature, as the outsiders believe, because they clearly appear as impermanent, changing into other states. Not only that, but there is not a single thing that does not have inherent existence in itself, because it is necessary to consider the phenomena that are the object of cognition as empty of a self of a person. And if there is no inherent existence, then like a flower in the sky, what is the object of cognition of this phenomenon called "transformation into another"? So it is unreasonable. The second point is: If it is according to your view, then the proof of "becoming other" is unreasonable, because if phenomena inherently have inherent existence, how can they change into other? For example, just as it is impossible for fire to be separated from heat, it is never possible for something that has inherent existence to change into other. There is no other change in the state of the thing itself, because that is what has not changed. What has already changed into another is also not existent, because it has already changed into another. These are illustrated by examples: Because one does not grow old while being young, because these two states are contradictory. Because what has already aged from the beginning does not age again.
