Ah, indeed! If you understand the realm of activity of the wise, then you are wise. Like a worm writing on a tree, accidental success does not make one wise. Regarding things that have the power to benefit and harm, because you do not know where they are, do not discriminate against anyone. If you benefit them, you yourself will increase. The wise give for the sake of the future, the foolish give when they see it benefits themselves. Although the act of giving is similar, the degree of respect for others is not the same. The wise consider what benefits them, the foolish consider what they can obtain and what they can rise to. A good man measures the volume of water, a petty man measures the size of food. A good friend supports a friend in decline, a bad friend befriends a friend in prosperity. Although the act of supporting is similar, to the wise, the way of supporting is not the same. A good man fights for victory outside, a bad man fights for victory inside. Although the act of arguing is similar, to others, the way of arguing is not the same. The foolish first seek the fruit of happiness, the wise first seek the cause of happiness. Although the act of seeking is similar, because they understand the key point, the way of seeking is not the same. Like these things that are similar but not the same, one knows good and bad through the difference in actions. Better than a thousand friends without qualities is one friend with qualities. Even if there is only one enemy, it is like having many enemies. Even if there are a hundred relatives, it is like having few relatives. Therefore, one should make many friends and not create enemies with anyone. If you treat them well, even enemies will become relatives. If you mistreat them, even sons will become enemies. No one is a natural friend or a natural enemy; most are created by their own actions. If gentleness can subdue the harsh, what need is there to speak of gentleness itself? Gentleness that is sharp at the right time is difficult for even enemies to overcome. What should one do with arrogance that is despised even by enemies, and harshness that even relatives flee from? The one who possesses the power of both peace and might is praised by all. For those who have no fault of their own, always abide in the path of righteousness, and for those who harm others for no reason, do not submit, be firm. If you have qualities, you can reconcile even enemies into friends. For the unruly and wicked, even if they are friends, abandon them. For those who are in an intermediate state, adopt a neutral attitude. If you understand these things, you will always obtain happiness. For what will become like this in the future, first think carefully beforehand, actions should be fruitful, and do things without regret. Actions that are timely will also succeed without difficulty. When the time has passed

When the time is not ripe, most things are difficult to accomplish. No one can escape the laws of the king in this life, and the ripening karmic results in the next. One should admit defeat when one is not truthful. People have eyes to see others, but to see oneself, one needs a mirror. If one does not gather one's mind inward, it is difficult to see one's own faults. Fools think that all happiness and suffering arise from external causes, and are constantly distracted by the waves of attachment and aversion, taking and rejecting external objects. The wise know that all happiness and suffering depend on themselves, and constantly turn their minds inward, observing themselves and dwelling with mindfulness. Whatever good or bad one experiences, those with discernment can generate wisdom from it. Even if one sees hundreds and thousands of joys and sorrows, there is no benefit for the mindless fool. Like various jewels, the wise can demonstrate actions that are appropriate to the situation, time, and others. A fool is like a stone, unchanging in color. Even if the powerful have great wealth, they should not torment others in inappropriate situations. If one can become a victor, a temperate ruler will always be victorious. Who can escape the invitation of the forest's assembly, the allure of the seven-tongued dance? The rain falls in season, with the secret of the cloud's drumbeat, the beauty of the water-cloud lightning garland captivates all minds. However much fools gain and win, they burn like a fire of greed and quickly vanish. Even if one gains increase and surpasses others, the wise are cool like clouds through the gate of mindfulness. Befriending evil people is like herding livestock, and making monks and mantra practitioners into enemies is something even a king should not do, for doing so is the root of one's own destruction. Old grudges and remaining debts should be cut off when the flames are small. Like a bird that has flown from its nest, it is difficult to pursue afterwards. The more one respects and honors, the more one should be gentle. The more one despises and harms, the more one should be fierce. If respected, they become angry; if despised, they become peaceful. If one can defeat them, they kill the gods; if one cannot defeat them, they worship demons. If fighting, they flee; if submitted to, they torment. Who among the wise would like such an evil person? Even if an enemy insults, drink it like water; even if attendants help, they try to harm. For those who act perversely, even beneficial friends will have other thoughts. The wise themselves
