Even if perfumed with sandalwood, musk, and camphor, The foul smell of garlic will not naturally disappear. Even if one learns many excellent scriptures well, It is difficult to abandon the nature of a bad disposition. Knowing good speech and respecting appropriate situations, Having fearless confidence when showing contempt where it is inappropriate, Towering like the peak of Mount Sumeru, The pride of such a person is like an ornament. In times of ease and wealth, pride soars high, Unable to understand even when spoken to, despising all like grass. When fear manifests, becoming utterly dejected, Pursuing pleasure is the mark of a base person. Seeking from others, desiring delicious food, Living by begging, yet being very arrogant. Not knowing scriptures, yet desiring to argue, These three are the cause of laughter in the world. When fools gain wealth and respect, Pride arises, obscuring their faults. Like a pregnant mule, Vain praise leads to ruin. The more elevated a noble person becomes, The more humble and dedicated to benefiting others they are. Their fame spreads in all directions, Proclaimed by the words of people. The fragrance of a flower travels only in one direction, But the fragrant scent of the excellent pervades all directions. Even if one is humble and hides their qualities, They are proclaimed as if others are boasting. An unwise person with great pride, Because of small qualities such as lineage, appearance, and learning, Becomes arrogant like a frog in a well, And even slanders noble ones, But this cannot hinder the qualities of the noble, It only exhausts their own qualities in this and future lives. Like turning a torch downwards, It is like burning one's own hand. Qualities such as lineage, appearance, wealth, and learning, Become increasingly vast and excellent, Oh, narrow-minded ones!

Self-grasping does not see the truth. Those with caste and wisdom are respected, while the lowly try to despise. The stupa that the wise prostrate to, the crows spread there as seats. Like throwing unclean things upwards into the sky, it will fall on oneself. If you rely on a lowly arrogant person, it will fall on the one who relies on them. Just relying on the virtuous, virtuous, and tame, can make the one who relies on them, increase merit, splendor, and fame. Just like decorating the top of the head with jewels. Reciting the name of the Lord of Secrets, is like protecting all the ghosts and gods. Those who have relationships with high castes and wise people can also receive offerings. What is the need for great people to be arrogant? It is more beautiful when there is no arrogance. What is the benefit of the lowly being arrogant? If there is arrogance, it will be more despised. Those with arrogance, jealousy, and deceit, the three faults, become foolish. If you befriend them, bad things will increase. Staying away from them will bring happiness. It is easy for a good person to become an enemy (to reconcile). If you reconcile well, it will be beneficial. Evil people who are more dangerous than poisonous snakes should not be approached. If you befriend them, they will become angry, and when you give them kindness, they will think the opposite. If you speak the truth, they will refute it, they are incorrigible evil people. No matter which wise person knows these things, do not try to induce them with gentleness, just like treating phlegm disease with harsh treatments, treat them harshly with skillful methods. Most of the upright are overthrown, and most of the gentle are despised, so upright people should also, inflict appropriate punishment on the unruly fools. Evil people and gold and copper, unruly horses and arrogant women. These five will be tamed if beaten, gentleness is not suitable for them. There are no lotuses on the faces of noble families. Horns do not grow on the heads of lowly families. Through the difference in behavior, the caste of the sons of prostitutes will be revealed. Stingy people do not give alms, and arrogant people do not steal the wealth of others.
