Without diseases arising from food, Similarly, after examining well, There are few faults in doing things. Those who are attached to small matters, Cannot attain great happiness, Therefore, one must expand the mind, And make great qualities oneself. If one strives, even gods can be accomplished, If one destroys, even rocks can be shattered. Without accepting discouragement, One should strive continuously. There is nothing at all, That does not become easy with practice. Swans love lakes, and vultures love cemeteries, a mind accustomed to. The powerful, who always eat flesh and blood, A lion mates once a year. The donkeys who only chew dust, Always engage in unrestrained intercourse. Like detachment, attachment, and aversion, Beings follow the mind. The mind Follows habit, Mastering one's own mind is the supreme accomplishment. Beings follow karma, So most do not have autonomy. That karma is also created by the mind, So one should diligently tame the mind. On this earth, there is no distinction between happiness and suffering. The meaning of worldly and transcendent, Whatever one accomplishes depends on oneself, Without relying on others, The thing to do alone, Is to complete it, Thinking, this is a great man, a lion. Just as fire is ignited by wind, It can burn a dense forest. Similarly, whoever strives with method, Will overcome unfavorable opposing forces. Going to the heavens from the ladder of virtue, Making the great ocean of wealth and prosperity one's own. Even inviting the assembly of the three realms as guests, One can do as if holding it in one's hand through effort. From the "Treatise on Governance, Ornament of the Earth," The ninth chapter, which is the analysis of steadfastness and diligence. The good lords who possess complete wealth and prosperity, Are especially gentle. The rabbit holder (moon) surrounded by a string of stars, Is like appearing in a cloudless sky. Those with small qualities are arrogant, Those with supreme qualities are without pride. The empty ears of grain hold their heads high, The ripe ears of good grain bow down. Praising oneself, Even Indra is not beautiful, Without boasting with small talk, One should be as deep as the ocean. Even more so to those with qualities
