Like a clear son, the appearance is boundless and without center. The inner sign is the co-emergent non-conceptualization. Abiding for a moment in the sole wisdom that is utterly free from elaboration, all is emptiness. The experience of luminosity arises, and the mind is free from defilements. This is called the wisdom of near attainment, the fourth instant. As the Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara says: "Near attainment is without defilement, self-born, self-luminous bliss, without an object of focus. Subtle and coarse are utterly pacified, the supreme state of samadhi. In the fourth instant, it is unchanging and pervasive." Thus, the wisdom of near attainment, which is all emptiness and luminosity, can pacify all coarse and subtle discriminations. As the Vajramala Tantra says: "The first entry of consciousness is called the increasing of appearance. It enters into great emptiness, and that also goes into luminosity." Thus, all three appearances dissolve into luminosity and cease, hence it is called the wisdom of the emptiness of the nature of all phenomena. As the Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara says: "Just as various clouds have different colors and shapes, arise and change in the sky, and then dissolve into it, so too all natures, which are caused by the three appearances, enter into objects without remainder and then dissolve into them. The three appearances are the path of purification, the object of purified appearance, all abide in luminosity." And as Aryadeva said: "Just as various clouds have different colors and shapes, arise from the expanse of the sky, and then dissolve into it, so too all natures, which are caused by the three appearances, enter into objects without remainder and enter into luminosity." Thus, recognizing that appearance is the luminosity of habituation, increase is the luminosity of meditation, attainment is the luminosity of stainlessness and freedom from outflows, and near attainment is the co-emergent luminosity of the nature of the Dharmakaya. As the Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara says: "Luminosity is meditation, without outflows, without dust, without seed, unmoving, the co-emergent treasury of the Dharmakaya, the very nature of spontaneous Bodhicitta." Thus, as the four luminosities arise in succession, during the three appearances of appearance, increase, and attainment, the gross obscurations dissolve into the Dharmadhatu, and when the luminosity of near attainment, which is all emptiness, arises.
