It is exactly like that. If you do not obtain this, let alone liberation, there is no other way to even achieve the slightest fruit of happiness in the heavenly realms. Chandragomin says: Relying on the path of the Sugata, becoming an instrument to guide beings, whatever path is obtained by those with great mental strength, is not obtained by gods and nagas, nor by asuras, vidyadharas, kinnaras, or those who crawl on their bellies. The human body is extremely difficult to obtain, and once obtained, one should persevere and strive to realize its meaning. As the great teacher said: This precious human body with leisure and endowments, which is difficult to obtain, no matter which aspect you examine, whether it be cause, condition, analogy, or number, it is certainly difficult to obtain, and all Buddhas rely on it to attain nirvana. Therefore, regarding the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowments, one should generate joy like a poor person finding a treasure, and practice the sacred Dharma day and night without laziness. Thus it is said. Therefore, this precious human body, complete with the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment, is like a wish-fulfilling jewel that grants all desires. It is as difficult to obtain as a star in the daytime. Accumulating sinful and non-virtuous actions is like an impure vessel. It is as easily destroyed as an autumn flower. Here, as a boundary between going up and going down, it is like a rock at a crossroads. As the basis of all roots of virtue, it is like fertile land. It is like a ladder to climb to the heavenly realms and liberation. It is like a millstone that causes one to fall into samsara and the lower realms. Therefore, we should now, like a poor person obtaining a wish-fulfilling jewel, in this rare opportunity to accomplish special wishes with a perfect basis, how much time has already passed meaninglessly! Now, by all means, we must not let it be wasted, but like igniting the fire of a great kalpa with diligence, we must use our body, speech, and mind to practice the sacred Dharma. Moreover, all our actions and habits in this life are endless and of little meaning. Only the sacred Dharma can bring continuous benefit until death, and nothing else. Thinking in this way, do not be attached to relatives, friends, and enjoyments in this life, but strive to find the only way to obtain liberation. If you do not strive in this way, then the boatman

It is more foolish than returning empty-handed from an island in the ocean. Even if one hasn't stopped breathing, it's like being a zombie; even if one isn't possessed by a ghost, it's like being insane; even if one hasn't stopped breathing, it's definitely like a corpse. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "This leisure is extremely difficult to find." And: "Having found such leisure, if I do not cultivate virtue, there is no greater deception than this, and no greater ignorance than this." And as the great scholar said: "Again and again, it's as difficult to find as the Udumbara flower; finding it meaningful is like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Now, at this time when all the perfect conditions are met, strive with fierce diligence to transcend existence." And as the Omniscient One said: "Having found the leisure of human existence, and at this time encountering the true and supreme Dharma, if you do not ascend the ladder of liberation, it will be extremely difficult to find leisure and human form later." And as it says in the Secret Inconceivable Sutra: "The appearance of Buddhas in the world has a hundred paths; this human body is obtained through this collection [of causes]. Alas! Faith and listening to the Dharma, such things are difficult to find even in a hundred eons." As it is said above, when there is a boat, one must cross the river; when there is an army of heroes, one must subdue the enemy; when water, fertilizer, warmth, and moisture are complete, one must sow seeds. Now, at this time when all the favorable conditions for practicing the path are fully present, do not let all actions be meaningless, and in order to initiate the agriculture of future lives and ultimate benefit, may we all strongly consider practicing the genuine Dharma. Second, the instruction on the impermanence of death: Taking the essence of leisure should not be dominated by laziness and procrastination, thinking of doing it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Like a snake entering the lap of a coward, or like preventing a fire on the head of a beauty, one must immediately practice with fierce diligence. The reason is that the causes of death are many, and the causes of life are few. And the causes of death are not such that this one will die and that one will not; there is no such thing. Some die from being bitten by wild animals, dogs, etc.; some, while going to gather favorable conditions, are gored to death by yaks, dzos, etc.; some are thrown from riding horses, etc.
