Adorned with railings. It is the spontaneously accomplished, unsurpassed mandala. And (from) the Root Tantra Secret Essence: Without bondage, without liberation, From the beginning, spontaneously perfect, is the Dharma of the Buddhas. So it is said. And also from the Heart Drop: The ground-abiding awareness, its essence and nature, And the three kinds of compassion, in the essence of the Victorious Ones, It is taught that the three kayas are naturally present. So it is said. Furthermore, according to the common Dharma language, it is called the Sugata-garbha or the alaya-jnana, which is the unchanging wisdom that pervades samsara and nirvana. It is the nature or disposition of the Victorious Ones, therefore it is called the essence of the Victorious Ones or the Sugata-garbha. Although it is primordially free from defilements, it does not become a Buddha until the two obscurations are removed. It is the naturally abiding lineage or the Suchness with defilements, which is the meaning of dhatu. Although it is associated with defilements, the defilements are impermanent and adventitious, so it has never been stained in its own essence, which is naturally pure, which is the meaning of bodhi. From the beginning, all the qualities of the Buddha are spontaneously present in the ground, but if they are not awakened by the white dharmas, they cannot produce their power, which is the meaning of qualities. Because it abides as the protector and essence with impartial pervasiveness for all sentient beings, it eliminates temporary and ultimate suffering and generates happiness, which is the meaning of spontaneously accomplished activity, but without the conceptualization of agent and object, which is the meaning of activity. Since these are beyond the realm of conceptual thought, they are called the inconceivable ground. As it says in the Uttaratantra: The Buddha-dhatu and the Buddha-bodhi, As well as the Buddha-dharma and the Buddha-activity, Even pure sentient beings cannot conceive of them. This is the realm of activity of the guides. So it is. Secondly, the uncommon aspect, as it says in the Playful Vajra Heart Drop: The nature of the Sugata, the object to be tamed, In the essence of the three appearances, Establish the various distinctions of the continuum. Thus, for the cause, the abiding of sentient beings, and the path, the yogi who practices, and the result, the perfectly complete Buddha, in the common realm of appearance and knowable objects, the modes of appearance arise differently. In the impure stage, the cause, sentient beings, appear as deluded appearances, and in the impure and pure stages.

For the path yogis, it appears as a vision of experience; for the state of perfect purity, the Tathagatas, it appears as an inexhaustible wheel of ornaments. Therefore, the dependent Sugatagarbha is the Dharmata, impartial and all-pervasive, so there is no difference in itself. But it depends on the person who has the connection, and there are three names. As the Ratnagotravibhāga says: "Impure, impure-pure, and perfectly pure, in order, sentient beings, Bodhisattvas, and Tathagatas." Thus it is said. Similarly, although the nature of the essence has no good or bad, depending on the way of awakening, there are the three vehicles of lineage; depending on the part of purity and the order of complete realization, there are the differences of the four noble beings: Hearers, Solitary Realizers, Arhats, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas. As the Abhisamayalankara says: "Because the Dharmadhatu is without difference, the lineage should not be different. By the difference of the dependent Dharma, it is said that there is a difference." And the Ratnagotravibhāga says: "The form is inferior, medium, and superior like the sky." Like this. The function of the cause and effect of this abiding is to be in accordance with the conditions. From being taken or not taken by the conditions of the path, the function of realization or non-realization arises, and thus it becomes the blueprint for the appearance of various states and enjoyments of samsara, and various bodies, pure lands, and activities of nirvana. As the third chapter of the Vimalakirti Sutra says: "All the two-named dharmas arise from this, therefore it is called the basis." Thus it is said. Although it has produced the continuum of samsara from beginningless time, it is not defiled by the Dharma of samsara. When the defilements are purified, although it becomes nirvana, it is not newly obtained, because it has not gone beyond the nature of purity from the beginning. As the Sutra Ornament says: "As when water is turbid and clear, purity is not born from it, it is only free from defilements, so is the purity of one's own mind. The mind always desires that, the nature of luminosity, it is defiled by adventitious faults, making it unwholesome. Other than the Dharmata mind, no other mind can be said, not the nature of luminosity, it is said to be the essential mind." And as the Dharmadhatu Praise says: "What is the cause of samsara, that one
