Only there can beings live in peace, and the land has no disputes. There, yogis should practice. The second part has two points. The first is the Dharma to be abandoned: Not only should the ten non-virtuous deeds of body, speech, and mind be abandoned, but until some stability is gained, if it harms samadhi, even if it is a virtuous act, such as prostrations and circumambulations of the body, recitations and mantra repetitions of speech, and the discrimination of hearing and thinking of the mind, etc., should also be temporarily abandoned. What need is there to mention actions that are neither virtuous nor non-virtuous, the walking and sitting of the body, the talking of speech, and the deluded thoughts of the mind? Because one is separated from these three, one does not need to rely on the enjoyment of the three doors, and one must abandon the leaking pleasures of worldly life and always abide in pure conduct. Even until the instructions are not finished, abiding in this is said to be independent of the happiness of change. Among all these, the most important are the three dharmas to be abandoned. First, one must abandon the hope of the mind. As it is said in the Six Dharmas of Meditation: "Hope is powerful, it is suffering; no hope is the supreme of happiness. Not hoping for hope, like a poor woman sleeping peacefully." Just as a poor woman makes an appointment with her lover, and cannot sleep in the first part of the night because she hopes he will come, and in the second part of the night she sleeps soundly because she has given up hope. Whether one hopes for Dharma or worldly prosperity, because the hope is not fulfilled, it causes suffering, so one should abandon hope. Second, one should also abandon the accumulation, storage, and increase of wealth, etc. Because wealth causes disputes, no wealth is the supreme of happiness. Just as when a cormorant finds a fish corpse, other cormorants chase it in order to snatch it, so it feels pain, but when it abandons the fish corpse, it obtains happiness. Third, one should also abandon household life. If one does not abandon it, one will be distracted by the affairs of women, which will cause virtue to decline. The labor of household is suffering, and will never become happiness. Just as when a snake sleeps in its own nest, it is disturbed by its young, so it goes to another nest and obtains happiness. Second, the Dharma to be relied upon is:

In general, one should rely on a qualified lama with meditative experience and means of livelihood untainted by sin. If one wishes to engage in the three activities of recitation, practice, and action in connection with the generation stage, then one must gather the individual implements as described in the sadhana. In particular, in order to stabilize samadhi, one should cut off physical fatigue and strenuous activity, idle talk, and mental proliferation, and cultivate the three leisures. One should make a strong commitment to engage in yoga. Among the three dharmas to be relied upon, the first is to rely on a solitary place. As it is said: "The hunter goes into the forest, and begins to search for game. Seeing the benefits of solitude, he settles there." This means that the hunter went into the forest to hunt animals, and because he saw the benefits of solitude, he stayed there, and samadhi arose spontaneously. Secondly, even if the place is solitary, if the mind is not solitary, it will be like the body of a great meditator and the mind of a merchant in the marketplace. Therefore, it is important to have a solitary mind. As it is said: "Here, the king's four armies surround him, but because his focus is so firm, the archer does not see them." This means that the archer is so focused on straightening the arrow shaft that he does not hear the sound of the army arriving or the sounds of battle. Thirdly, in order to obtain stable focus, one must live alone. As it is said: "Many always fight, and two become rivals. Like a young woman's bracelets, one should live alone." This means that when a young woman rubs sandalwood with many bracelets on her arm, the bracelets clash and she is uncomfortable. Gradually, she takes off the bracelets, and even when she rubs with two bracelets, they clash. Finally, she puts on only one bracelet and rubs, and the task is accomplished. Thirdly, in particular, in order to counteract the five faults, one needs to rely on the eight antidotes. Among the five faults to be abandoned, as it says in the Madhyantavibhāga: "Laziness and the instructions, forgetfulness, sinking and excitement, non-application and application, these are considered the five faults." This means that what obstructs the practice of samadhi is laziness, which is not enjoying the practice, and forgetting the meaning of the words to be meditated upon even when one enjoys the practice. What obstructs the main practice is sinking and excitement, even when one practices without forgetting the instructions.
