Among the two good things, here refers to the good one. That is, the darkness of knowledge that has not been changed by sectarian views, because the cause of self-nature awakens, as a sign that faith slightly begins to waver, entering into subtle roots of virtue, it is said that eight ordinary minds arise. In the "Tantra of Manifest Enlightenment of Vairochana," it says: "Secret Lord, furthermore, for ordinary children who are like livestock, sometimes on the street, some may have a perception of Dharma, like this: 'One should abide in fasting,' just thinking this in their minds, they feel satisfied and repeatedly become accustomed to it. Secret Lord, this is like a seed for the growth of virtuous actions, it is the first mind." From there, "Secret Lord, this is the best breath for ordinary children who wander everywhere in samsara. This has become strength, the victorious ones say it is the eighth mind." Thus it is said. Therefore, entering into minor austerities such as fasting with a subtle virtuous mind is like a seed; giving charity to close relatives is like a sprout; giving charity even to those who are not friendly is like a trunk; searching everywhere for objects of charity and giving is like leaves; giving charity to those with qualities, from the lama to the musician, is like flowers; giving to others out of joy is like fruit; guarding morality in order to be born in the heavens is like food; furthermore, respectfully offering to the great gods, and because of understanding the teachings of the lama, even though driven by self-grasping, the thought arises of wanting only oneself to be liberated from suffering, this is the mind that has become strength. Like this, among these eight minds, the first, fifth, and each in order, are gathered by austerity, charity, morality, and the root of virtue of non-attachment, they are subtle, merely the mind of a small person. After that, six kinds of breathing arise: when abandoning non-virtuous actions and focusing the mind on virtue itself, breathing through virtue; when relying on my suchness and focusing the mind on one point, breathing through relying on myself; through contemplating the aggregates, obtaining a clear appearance of selflessness.

Furthermore, when the breath goes out due to selflessness, and when focusing solely on the Dharma, without focusing on the coarse aggregates, the breath goes out through the Dharma. And when abandoning all dharmas, when the mind abides in the meaning of no-birth, the breath goes out due to the selflessness of dharmas. And when even the manifest clinging to emptiness ceases, it is called the breath going out through equanimity. Of these, the first two are common with outsiders, that is, the intention of a small person, which is the vehicle of gods and humans. The middle two are common with hearers and solitary realizers, and are the intention of a middling person. The last two are common with the path of bodhisattvas, and are the intention of a great person. After that, one studies the vehicle of mantra, as it says in the Hevajra Tantra: "Having known all the sequences of mantras, Then the Hevajra is taught." Thus it is said that one should study the tantras in sequence. Moreover, all the vehicles of cause and effect of liberation agree that the basic reality is only obscured by ignorance. However, since the identification of ignorance is not the same, the order of antidotes also becomes different. Thus, the ways of identifying ignorance are: the Shravakas consider the deluded mind associated with the view of the aggregates; the Mind-Only school considers the appearance of grasping subject and object as different entities; the Madhyamikas consider the elaboration of conceptualization on commonly known phenomena; the Great Madhyamikas of the Sutra school consider habits; the Great Madhyamikas of the Unsurpassed Secret Mantra consider the habits of the changing bliss of transference as subtle ignorance. And they also believe that the respective antidotes are, in sequence, merely the selflessness of the person, and the non-inherent existence of the object, and the emptiness that is nothing at all, and the self-knowing, self-illuminating ultimate realm, and the wisdom of self-knowing union of the fourth empowerment path. In this way, considering the gradual entry of people of lesser capacity, it is not absolutely certain that one should first study the common vehicles of cause and effect, and then lead them into the unsurpassed profound path. Because for people of supreme capacity, those who are certain to be suitable vessels for the uncommon profound path of the Unsurpassed Secret Mantra can enter the supreme conduct from the very beginning. In any case, the aspect of studying the intention of the Buddha's vehicle...
