There are three ways: the Sutra section, According to the method of the root mandala of the Sutra section, the method of bestowing thirty-six actual Sutra section empowerments; according to the method of the oral instruction section, in the mandala of the complete Sutra section, the method of bestowing the thirty-six root Sutra section empowerments that include all vehicles, dividing them into eight hundred and thirty-one coarse branches; and the concise method of receiving them, which combines the two according to the practice of the present time. The first method is divided into two parts: identifying the root mandala, and explaining the method of bestowing the thirty-six empowerments explicitly taught in the Sutra section. The first part is: there are two types of common and uncommon root or special mandalas, or there are two types of common and uncommon great assembly mandalas. How is it understood? The uncommon mandala is: in the great assembly of the root tantra, the wrathful mandala known as the "Cemetery Secret Supreme Mandala" described in the chapter on the practice method, and the peaceful mandala described in the explanatory tantra "Terrifying Lightning," are combined. When it is divided into separate branch mandalas, in the context of the complete Sutra section, it is the mandala of the accomplishment empowerment "Water of Fame." Therefore, it is called the uncommon Sutra section root or special mandala. As it is said in the root tantra: "The Cemetery Secret Supreme Mandala will be extensively explained. Mandala, of all mandalas, this great root mandala, for the sake of liberating all samsara, will be explained to the yogi." Its commentary, the Extensive Explanation, says: "'Cemetery Secret' means that this mandala is uncommon, it is special, it is the armor prepared for bestowing empowerment." "Mandala, of all mandalas," etc., refers to the basis of the inner and outer mandalas in order, which is the Cemetery Secret Mandala, and so on. The common root mandala is: the peaceful and wrathful mandala extensively described in the six hidden empowerments taken from the King of Tantras, Vairochana Abhisambodhi, in the Kalpa Fragments, and in the Guide to the Tantra Section, as well as the wrathful mandala described in the ninth chapter of the Hevajra Tantra, and the peaceful mandala described in Terrifying Lightning.
