Ro! The basis for considering the path of liberation as both gradual and sudden is the three characteristics of knowing, entering, and actualizing. The lineage holders of Vajrasattva, such as Ngari Panchen Rinpoche and Jigling, consider realization and liberation to be simultaneous. Indra believes that these three characteristics should be perfected simultaneously, inseparably, and decisively. Such suddenness is not only the suddenness below, but also this is suddenness, and not only this but also the one below. Such summarizing words can be added. Even if it can be said that way, there must be a suddenness that is the culmination of knowing and entering in stages. Therefore, in our own system, not all suddenness is necessarily like that. Here, saying that realization is very rapid is called suddenness, and suddenness refers to a person. The path of suddenness refers to the samadhi and so on in that person's continuum. In our own system, the suddenness of rapid realization of the path is also the initial realization practiced on this path of the completion stage of the path of liberation, which is actually the reason, such as the four types of reasoning, including the establishment of pervasion on the basis of the subject, property, reason, and example. First, it is the subsequent inference of the mind that grasps the sign of the three aspects, and then, relying on the subsequent inference of realizing the object to be proven, the view must be determined. By merely listing a few clues of the reasons to be explained below, one can effortlessly obtain the realization of the superior truth, the ultimate truth, or luminosity. The primordial winds, etc., which are the basis, awaken, and in the presence of the mind, the impure appearances, all of the superior truth, the conventional appearances, appear as a single mandala of self-manifesting wisdom. Like that, by abiding in the meaning of the union of the two superior truths, in the post-meditation, the opportunity for coarse mental appearances to spread is also completely eliminated. Whatever appears appears as illusion, so one can freely control self-manifestation. Because impure appearances, clinging to bad thoughts, etc., cannot be shaken, one can immediately obtain stable realization that can overcome obstacles without increase or decrease. Because the faculties are sharp, one goes to the ground of the vidyadhara like a magic trick, up to the life-empowerment vidyadhara. The reason why realization can be so rapid is that the continuum begins with renunciation and is practiced with the six perfections. From this, the roots of the liberation division, such as faith and diligence, mature, and like clinging to objects and actualizations, etc., the object, time, intention, etc.

Some characteristics of individuals endowed with three great qualities are that they have not even received the empowerment of mantra in the past. Although they cannot specifically pray for the two stages and other special qualities, they have prayed for the ultimate intention of the Buddhas. Because of causes such as making great prayers for the path of the net of illusion, any accumulated merit is transformed into the power of a special prayer. For example, Shariputra was prophesied to have great wisdom by offering a needle to the Sangha, and Ananda was prophesied to attain the supreme samadhi by offering a bowl filled with food. This is because in previous lives, they did not receive the empowerment of the net of illusion, so they did not study it. Although in this life they quickly understand this path of illusion, and it is a sudden enlightenment relative to the supreme mantra of the path of illusion, it is because in earlier lives they gradually practiced the lower paths on the ladder of this path. Therefore, in this life it is a sudden enlightenment relative to the mantra path, and in previous lives it is a gradual enlightenment relative to the lower paths, and these two do not contradict each other. There is such a saying in the lineage's teachings or oral transmissions, that the faculties, abilities, and merits are all sudden enlightenment. Just as it is said in the Hearer Vehicle that one attains the determination of the three vehicles' lineage and its own fruit, the sutras and tantras have repeatedly stated that sentient beings' faculties are of three types: superior, middling, and inferior, and each of these is divided into three, so there are various faculties. Therefore, even if one only accumulates the sharpness of self-arisen awareness, the means of entering mantra, merit, etc., without studying any path of liberation, in this life one can completely accomplish the steps of realization, there is such a sudden enlightenment, as the great secret lord Vajrapani said. Through the reasoning of the sharpness of practice and the sharpness of self-arisenness, for those who are gradual, the sharpness of practice refers to continuing the practice of the common and uncommon mantra paths that were practiced in the past; while the sharpness of self-nature refers to practicing only in this life through a gradual path with common and uncommon parts, that is, through the sharp faculties realizing the view, and then gradually becoming familiar with wavering, attainment, etc., and finally reaching the position of vidyadhara. The way to distinguish these two is also easy to understand. The three characteristics are that in the forest of Chimpu at Samye, the thirteenth chapter of the net of illusion was taught to the assembly of the king and his subjects.
