The intermediate attachment, combined with extreme joy, as well as coquetry, extreme coquetry, contention, goodness, clear speech, truth, untruth, certainty, non-acceptance, a giver, exhortation, bravery, shamelessness, cleverness, malice, untamedness, and great deceitfulness—these forty types of conceptualizations arising from attachment cease. At that time, even if the daughters of the gods sing and dance, there is no arising of attachment. Inwardly, due to the connection of the red and white essences, the external sign is like the sun shining in a clear, cloudless sky, appearing bright red. The coarse conceptualizations of grasping and being grasped are extremely empty, it is the clear light of emptiness, and the mind appears very bright, called the wisdom of increasing appearance, which is the second instant. The *Two-Without-Difference-Victorious Sutra* says, "Increasing appearance is extremely non-conceptual, from extreme brightness, grasping conceptualization does not arise, wisdom is subtle, windless, non-conceptual, abiding serenely is the second instant." Thus it is said. When the white and red essences meet in the heart, the wisdom of increasing also merges into attainment, therefore the seven natures of the wisdom of increasing appearance cease. The *Collected Practices Sutra* says, "The intermediate attachment, as well as forgetfulness, cunning, speechlessness, depression, laziness, and doubt—these seven types of conceptualizations arising from ignorance cease." At that time, the power of the white and red essences vanishes into the dharmadhatu, leaving only some life force, which then takes control. The external sign is like the sky being covered by darkness, appearing pitch black or dim. The extremely subtle conceptualizations of grasping and being grasped are very empty, it is the clear light of emptiness. On the object of appearance, all different characteristic things disappear, and the mind inclines towards cessation, therefore it is called the wisdom of attaining appearance, which is the third instant. The *Two-Without-Difference-Victorious Sutra* says, "The wisdom of attainment is extremely non-conceptual, not abiding in mere brightness, extremely subtle, wind and mind inseparable, appearing brightly, abiding serenely is the third instant." Thereafter, when the essence of blood and breath, the bindu A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: A) Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese: Hum), is completely absorbed into the vein in the heart, which is like a white silk thread, the wisdom of attainment also merges into the clear light of death, therefore there is

Although all phenomena exist as habitual patterns within that very continuum, those habitual patterns are not manifest here. All the conceptual thoughts and conventional appearances gathered by this lifetime dissolve into clear light. Because those gathered by other lifetimes do not arise here, for a while, all appearances of external grasping and internal clinging, as well as the appearances of white, red, and black, cease. The external sign is like the clear and bright sky free from clouds, an appearance without beginning or end. The internal sign is abiding for a moment in that very non-conceptual coemergent wisdom, which is utterly free from elaboration. Everything is emptiness. Because the experience of clear light dawns, the wisdom called "near attainment," where the mind is free from defilement, is the fourth moment. The Two-in-One Victorious One says: "Near attainment is without defilement; self-born, self-arisen, there is no happiness; subtle and coarse are utterly pacified; it becomes the supreme samadhi; in the fourth moment, it is unchanging and pervasive." And so on. Recognizing these, appearance is the clear light of familiarity; increase is the clear light of meditation; attainment is the clear light of freedom from dust and without outflows; near attainment is the clear light of the coemergent dharmakaya nature. The Two-in-One Victorious One says: "Clear light is meditation without outflows; freedom from dust is non-existent and unmoving; the essence of the coemergent dharmakaya is the spontaneously accomplished nature of bodhicitta." Thus, if one has thoroughly trained in the path of the completion stage, and if the body has not been transformed into a rainbow body, then in this clear light of the death-state dharmakaya, one recognizes the mother and child clear light, together with previous familiarity, as if a beautiful maiden were looking into a mirror. The Manjushri Magical Net says: "In a single moment, one makes distinctions; in a single moment, one becomes completely enlightened." And so on. For those who lack familiarity with the path and for great sinners, it may appear for a moment like lightning in the darkness, but they will not recognize it. Having made that very clear light of death the object to be purified, and having taken that very clear light of the death-state dharmakaya as the path of purification, one purifies the death-state into the dharmakaya. With the pride of connecting the ground and the result, one integrates all phenomena gathered by appearance, sound, samsara, and nirvana into the samadhi of the dharmakaya, the suchness free from elaboration.
