Although it seems like a shortcut, it is called a long path because it ultimately needs to realize the meaning of the Secret Essence of Illusion. Moreover, because the basis and result, and the actions of knowing and attaining are interconnected, the method arises continuously without interruption, hence it is a 'continuum.' The path continuum is related to knowing the basis and related to attaining the result, because it exists within the connection of actions between the two. In particular, regarding the division of the path, as stated in the Ocean of Explanatory Tantras: 'How is the path of liberation shown as a method?' Therefore, there are two paths: the path of method and the path of liberation. First, the path of method, as it says itself: 'The wonderful method of escaping the lower realms.' Thus, mainly through the special characteristic of method, the result is quickly accomplished through the extraordinary conduct of a yogi. For example, just as iron is transformed into gold in a short time by the alchemy of mercury. This is what it shows. 'Wonderful lower realms' refers to the binding karma, but obtaining the fruit of liberation is a wonderful meaning. The so-called 'special characteristic of method' means that although the path of liberation, which will be explained below, also possesses method and wisdom, here it is spoken from the perspective of emphasizing the pith instructions, so it is called 'special characteristic of method.' The so-called 'extraordinary conduct of a yogi' refers to a yogi who does not abandon the three poisons and possesses the extraordinary conduct like a Togal practitioner. For example, just as if water enters the ear, pouring water in will make it come out. As the tantra says: 'If water enters the ear, it should be removed with water itself.' The so-called 'alchemy of mercury' refers to mercury. From the perspective of combining profit and loss, it is also similar to the example of the path of method. That is, if one possesses the confidence of seeing the three poisons without attachment and applies them through method, not only will one not be bound, but also attaining the result will not require effort. For example, if someone who is well-versed in the alchemy of mercury applies it through the five stages, transforming iron into gold in a short time does not require effort. If someone who does not know alchemy applies it, not only will iron not be transformed into gold, but also because the enemy of mercury is fire, it will lead to houses being burned down, and so on.

Just as there is great danger, if someone uses the three poisons without method, not only will they not attain the fruit of liberation, but they will also incur the great fault of falling into the three lower realms. As the sutra says: 'Hatred leads to hell, desire leads to the realm of hungry ghosts, and ignorance mostly leads to the animal realm.' So it is said. If we differentiate these methods, in the Three Stages it says: 'The gate of instructions above and below.' Among these, there are the upper gate and the lower gate. First, the upper gate is: relying on the six chakras, through the union of blazing and dripping, cultivating the wisdom of bliss in the four chakras, this is gradual. As it says in the Ocean: 'Three two wheels and three life-forces, fire and wind move in the space, milking is known upwards.' So it is said. The six chakras are: the four root chakras and the two causal chakras. Relying on these six, through the four chakras of the upward and downward movement of bodhicitta, cultivating the wisdom of bliss is gradual. 'Three two' means two threes, that is six, and 'three life-forces' means the three channels in the middle of the body, like the three life-forces of Roma, Kyangma, and Uma being raised and abiding. That is, Uma is white on the outside and red on the inside, about the size of medium birch bark. The lower end is at the secret place, and the upper end is straight and still between the crown chakra and the Brahma's hole. To its right is the red Roma channel, filled with blood, and to its left is the white Kyangma channel, filled with semen, both of which are twice as thin as Uma. The lower end of the Roma channel faces forward and enters the urethra, and the lower end of the Kyangma channel faces backward and enters the anus. The upper ends of the two channels curve downward from above the eyebrows and are located in the left and right nostrils. Relying on these, the six chakras are: above the eyebrows is the crown chakra, the wheel of great bliss, with thirty-two petals. Above the throat is the throat chakra, the wheel of enjoyment, with sixteen petals. Above the heart is the heart chakra, the wheel of dharma, with eight petals. Above the navel is the navel chakra, the wheel of emanation, with sixty-four petals. Four fingers below that, there is the fire mandala of heat generation, marked with the triangular syllable Ram Below that, at the base of the genitals, there is the wind mandala of heat generation, shaped like a bow, marked with the syllable Yam The way to practice relying on these
