Like a wish-fulfilling jewel in the middle of mud, or like a river with eight branches in the earth. The nature of mind, which dwells in the midst of the sheath of afflictions, is naturally luminous and perfectly pure, is the essence of the Sugata, which is called the basis of purification or the basis of the nature of reality. As Nagarjuna said: In the earth... without impurity... in afflictions... thus it dwells without impurity. Secondly, the basis of imputed error: Wrong views and attachments, together with their objects, are like the impurities or mud to be purified. Because it is a false appearance, it is said to be the basis of imputed error. For example, like the mud that obscures the qualities of a jewel. Although samsara and nirvana are not established as two, the eight consciousnesses that grasp at duality, together with their objects, are of the nature of false appearances, and are therefore called the basis of imputed error. As it is said in the "Oral Instructions of Manjushri": "The phenomena of samsara are like a variegated rope, / Know that they are non-existent like a snake." And in the Sutra it says: "Whoever has wrong thoughts does not see the true meaning. / These foolish children engage in non-existent dharmas." Attachment itself is the cause of accomplishing samsara, and it continues until the aspects of alaya-vijñana are exhausted, but because it is a false and artificial dharma, it does not become the proximate cause of obtaining the result, because when the ultimate result is obtained, the impurities are purified and one becomes naturally enlightened. Even if emptiness itself does not cease by analyzing with reason, it is not a cause with characteristics. Thus, all dharmas such as the five aggregates, when analyzed by the reasoning of one and different, and the emptiness that negates the object by rational consciousness, is called the emptiness of non-affirmation. That is not a cause with characteristics, however, since it is not appropriate to merely accept it as imputed, therefore, merits and demerits arise in relation to it, and it is only temporarily continuous in the presence of awareness. What has been explained above is the explanation of the nature of the basis to be realized. Secondly, what is realized and transcended, that is, the explanation of the nature of the means or path: The means to separate the nature from the adventitious impurities, that is, wisdom, entering, diligence, etc.
