It is the introductory statement, because it surpasses other tantras. Thus it is said. Although there are many ways of surpassing, here, as it is said in Glan DIk: Merely the place is similar to Akanishta, but this is the Akanishta of the Great Lord, therefore the place is superior; merely the teacher is similar to the Sambhogakaya, but here the teacher is the six-family Samantabhadra, therefore the teacher is superior; merely the retinue is similar to Bodhisattvas, but here they are the Bodhisattvas of fruition, therefore the retinue is superior; the teaching is merely similar to the path of liberation, but here the path of liberation is the profound reality of the secret essence of Dharmata, therefore the teaching is superior; the time is merely occasionally similar, but this is the time of the equality of the four times, therefore the time is superior. Its distinctions are: the Dharma spoken in which place, the time when it is spoken, the teacher who speaks, the place where it is assembled, and the retinue assembled with whom. Among these, first, the explanation of the perfection of the Dharma spoken in which place is indicated by "Thus it was said." Among these, "Thus it was said" is a phrase, indicating the meaning of the entire beginning and end of the tantra. Secondly, the perfection of the time when it is spoken is indicated by "Time." Its meaning is that the teacher, the Sambhogakaya, constantly teaches the Dharma, therefore it transcends the terms of sometimes speaking and sometimes not speaking, and it proclaims the uncommon greatness of the perfection of time. As it is said in the Ocean: "At that time, free from the two extremes, the essence is the equality of the four times." Incidentally, to eliminate the wrong conceptions of these: In this tantra, it is said "Thus it was said," while in other collections, it is said "Thus I have heard at one time." The difference between these two introductory statements is that the necessity of "Thus I have heard at one time" in other collections is that the teacher and the compiler are distinguished, and this is heard directly from one's own teacher, not transmitted from others. Thus, it enters into the purity of the source of the Dharma, and at one time this was said, and at other times others were also said, because the compiler himself heard a great deal.

etc. are also included. This refers to the all-powerful lord of magical power, the secret lord Vajrapani, who, on the summit of the Himalayas, while turning the wheel of secret mantra dharma for the five kinds of vowed retinue, said: "The essential points of the tantras that I previously taught in Akanishta, I shall now repeat and explain here as well." This is to mention the greatness of the Teacher and retinue being of one mind. In the root tantra of the Bliss Gathering and Peaceful Gathering, it says: "I am the great king, and the teaching and listening are also this." Also, in the Two Examinations, it says: "The teacher is me, the dharma is also me, and the listener with his own assembly." Also, in Secret Accomplishment, it says: "The one who teaches the tantra is the mind vajra, and the teacher is also the gathering." Furthermore, regarding the distinction between speaking and hearing, some scholars say: "This is the difference between the teachings of the two bodies, because the enjoyment body does not speak in words, and the ears of the retinue cannot hear it, so it is called 'speaking'; the emanation body expresses it in words, so the retinue can hear it, so it is called 'hearing'." However, all the tantras spoken by the enjoyment body must be like this, but in reality, it is not so. Others say that speaking and hearing are inconsistent in words, but consistent in meaning, speaking refers to the meaning of the Teacher speaking to the retinue, and hearing refers to the meaning of the retinue hearing from the Teacher. But hearing does not completely cover speaking. Speaking refers to the meaning of the Teacher speaking to the retinue, without the faults of not understanding, misunderstanding, and hesitation. Hearing refers to the meaning of the retinue hearing from the Teacher, without the above three faults. But speaking does not have the three faults, while hearing has faults, so it does not completely cover it. My own view is that, as mentioned before, taking the position of the Teacher and retinue being of one mind, therefore in this tantra it is said, "At the time of speaking this," and the Great Commentary of Sunlight Lion says: "Speaking refers to the fact that the Teacher and retinue have become one." Furthermore, if someone asks: "This tantra does not say 'Thus have I heard, at one time,' is it a wrong beginning?" Then the Pure Tantra of Manjushri Illusion Net and the Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara, etc., would also become untrue teachings. Because in the Manjushri Illusion Net it says: "Then, glorious Virtuous Vajra"
