For example, wood and so on. When it is related to purpose and meaning, that which can function as a support is called a "support pillar." A pot for fetching water is called a "water pot." Naming based on similarity, for example, giving a dark-skinned, flat-nosed Brahmin child the name "Lion." Naming based on association, for example, the rays of the sun are called "sunlight." Generally speaking, there are many ways to name the scriptures of the holy Dharma: naming according to the speaker's teacher, such as the Five Treatises of Maitreya, the Lotus Heart Drop, and so on; naming according to the requester's retinue, such as the Tiger's Questions, the Elder's Questions, the Sutra Requested by the Boy Jewel Moon; naming according to the place where it was located, such as the Lankavatara Sutra; naming according to the time it was spoken, such as the Salu Grove Sutra; naming according to the length of the text, such as the Hundred Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, and so on. There are many ways of naming. Here, it is named according to the way the tantra exists, that is, according to the three aspects it explains: the ground, the path, and the result. The tantra of the ground is "secret," the tantra of the path is "essence," and the tantra of the result is "certainty of suchness." Some may wonder why only the name of the secret instruction appears at the beginning of this book. Generally speaking, in Mahayoga, there are father tantras, mother tantras, non-dual tantras, and so on. This is Maha Ati, so the name is written in this way at the beginning of the book. Second, explaining the necessity of naming: Just as mentioning the name "pot" allows one to understand an object with a large belly, a small base, and the ability to hold water, those with superior faculties can understand the meaning of the tantra simply by relying on the name; those with intermediate faculties can understand the categories of meaning; and even those with inferior faculties can easily find the book, just like labeling a medicine container. Third, explaining the actual meaning of the name: that is, "Secret Essence Certainty of Suchness." This is divided into two parts: dispelling wrong views and explaining the actual meaning of the name. First, dispelling wrong views: Some people think that because this tantra does not use Sanskrit, it has become Tibetan. But in fact, many treatises written in Tibet also use Sanskrit at the beginning, but this does not make them Indian.

Because translators dislike being verbose, and consider repeating the same word twice as having little necessity, they did not mention the Chinese translation. Secondly, regarding the actual meaning of the name, there are also three explanations: outwardly, it is explained in conjunction with the path of wisdom and liberation; inwardly, it is explained in conjunction with the upper gate of the path of skillful means; and secretly, it is explained in conjunction with the lower gate. The first is: In the small commentary of the Vimala commentary, it says: "Self-nature is called secret, greatness is the meaning of essence. That itself is the characteristic, because of certainty, it briefly explains the meaning of certainty." As it is said, the continuum of the base is secret, the continuum of the path is essence, and the continuum of the fruit is that itself. Among these, there are explanations of the definitive meaning of these. First, regarding the explanation of the secret of the continuum of the base, the Omniscient Dharma Lord and Rongzom Chökyi Zangpo both, in the fifteenth chapter of this (referring to the Kalachakra Tantra), summarize "not realizing the hidden secret, and clinging to the concealed secret" into two types: hidden and concealed. But here, the teacher Sgegpa Dorje, on top of the three: the secret of self-nature, the hidden secret, and the concealed secret, adds the unshown secret of Vimala, explaining it as four types. The first is: For example, although there is an inexhaustible treasure under the ground of a poor person's house, that person does not know that there is this treasure. The treasure also does not say to that person, "I am here," so that person is always impoverished due to poverty. Similarly, the mind also does not know that mind-nature exists, and mind-nature also does not say, "I am here," the self-nature of liberation and eternal happiness. As the Uttaratantra Shastra says: "Just as in a poor man's house, under the ground, there is an inexhaustible treasure, that person does not know it, and the treasure also does not say to him, 'I am here.' Similarly, within the mind is contained a precious treasure, the stainless stillness and the non-manifest Dharma-nature, because of not realizing it, the suffering of poverty, in many ways, is constantly experienced by this person." Secondly, regarding the explanation of the hidden secret: the continuum of self-nature, which is symbolized as the base, is naturally hidden within itself. For example, just as a nearby sound, one's own eyes cannot see themselves, and an easily believed sound, one does not believe oneself. Although it is said in many sutras and tantras that mind-nature is Buddha, one's own mind
