In the "Dun" and "Commentary," it is said that there are twelve forms of mandala: Suchness, Nature, Compassionate Taming Mandala, Samadhi, Image, Superior Samadhi Image, Bodhicitta, Superior Bodhicitta, Assembly, and Spontaneous Accomplishment Mandala. Among these twelve mandalas mentioned, what is established here is explained according to the intermediate teachings of the lineage's oral instructions. In this regard, there are seven: the Nature Mandala, the Image Mandala, the Superior Image Mandala, the Samadhi Mandala, the Superior Samadhi Mandala, the Bodhicitta Mandala, and the Assembly Mandala. First, within the Nature Mandala, the Root Tantra states: "Nature itself, spontaneous accomplishment, and the ultimate fruition are the three aspects." Thus, there are three. First, the Mandala of Nature itself is the reality of all phenomena, the nature of which is primordially pure. As it says: "The nature of phenomena, nature itself, is free from elaboration; all things are thus. This is the Mandala of Nature itself." Second, the Mandala of Spontaneous Accomplishment of Nature is where all conceptual constructs primordially abide as the mandala of deities. As the Root Tantra says: "The forty-five mandalas abide in the elements and sources; the Victorious Ones declared them to be spontaneously accomplished." Third, the Mandala of the Fruition of Nature is the Buddha Mandala, where the body and wisdom abide inseparably in the Dharmadhatu of Akanishta. As it says: "In the ultimate fruition of Akanishta, abiding is the form of the mandala and its retinue." Second, the Image Mandala is where the ultimate image appears as the conventional deity mandala. As the Extensive Tantra says: "The true Image Mandala is where the great and coarse are understood as skillful means, individual characteristics are understood as wisdom, and the non-dual connection is great skillful means." Third, the Superior Image is superior due to the activities and functions of the mandala, such as using earth as the symbol of a mudra. Divided from the perspective of what is needed as a basis, there are six: empowerment, offering, consecration, gathering, common accomplishment, and activity.

Among the six mandalas, this shows how to construct a mandala based on empowerment and gathering practices. That is, starting with "the supreme samaya being of extreme subtlety" from this very text, the teacher should first practice in a way that abides in the samadhi of extreme subtlety. If it is for empowering disciples, then practice any kind of recitation with number, time, and signs in the way of the path of desire; if it is for gathering practices, then in the way of the path of definite completion, the mudras and all the details should be made stable. After that, begin the work of the mandala. As the Vajra Action Sequence says: "The ground is level, and the measure and lines, colors and drawings, the complete form and blessing, the entering of the fire offering mandala, are the qualities of entering the mandala." Thus, there are ten in total, the first of which is examining the ground. Examining the characteristics of the land itself, excavating, controlling, purifying, blessing, protecting, and taking the land, there are eight in total. Thus, the Action Sequence also says: "The ground and its own nature, excavation and purification, blessing, protection, and taking the land, are said to be the branches of the first." Thus. The first of these is, as the "Fearsome Lightning" says: "Heaven and earth and the space between, examine them well and then act." Thus, in the examination of heaven, earth, and space, the first is examining heaven. As the Action Sequence says: "Many peaks such as octagons, not flowing like a river, level and clear like milk, a place where the sun dwells very well, one should know is the characteristic of the sky." Thus. The second is examining the contours of the mountains in between. Examining the mountains of the directions, and examining the land enemies of the borders. The first is, as it says in the same text: "East and south are inclined and smooth, high and low are west and north." Thus. Examining the land enemies of the borders is, as it says in the same text: "The mandala, empowerment, and enemy territory should be examined." That is, the way of it is also as the "Fearsome Lightning" says: "The fierce spear tip of Yama, the tear marks of the Rakshasa woman's weeping, the palm print of the Yaksha's anger, and the hiding place of the goblin thief." Thus, there is no Rakshasa's spear tip in the southeast, no Rakshasa woman's weeping marks in the southwest, no Yaksha's palm print in the northwest, and no goblin's place in the northeast. The third is examining the ground below, as the Action Sequence says: "Lofty and dense mountains with forests, extremely
