Because one must not transgress what one has vowed, it is called a vow. The Kun Dus says: "Transcending the vajra vow is a permanent treasure." Also, the root text says: "The merits and faults of vows change with circumstances." Therefore, vows are divided into the benefits of keeping them and the faults of not keeping them. The Vajra says: "In the minds of the noble ones, through empowerment and blessings, if vows are kept properly, discordant assemblies will be burned." It also says: "Whoever transgresses this vow, even the Vajradhara will be burned." Therefore, vows are divided into five root vows and two sets of five branch vows, totaling ten. If expanded, they can be divided into three hundred and sixty. The first is: This itself says: "Do not abandon the unsurpassed, honor the guru, do not interrupt mantras and mudras, be kind to those who have entered the right path, do not speak for the sake of secrets. These are the five roots, the supreme vows of practice and protection." The first is not abandoning the unsurpassed, which refers to the ultimate and conventional bodhicitta. Not abandoning them is to realize the non-duality of appearance and emptiness, and not to deviate from the mudra of knowing the three doors as the body, speech, and mind of the deity. The Clear Illumination says: "One's own body is the great mudra of the victorious ones, and the realm of sentient beings should also be known as such. The non-dual vajra body of appearance and emptiness, all that is done, seen, and heard, for the sake of beings, there is no attachment to anything done. If mindfulness and awareness are placed before, and not constantly remembered in the three times, how can one be a Mahayana mantra practitioner?" The second is the vow to honor the guru. Regarding the classification of the object of respect, the Clear Illumination says: "Common, guiding, vow empowerment, replenishing deficiencies, liberating the stream of knowledge, and the six teachers of oral transmission." One who is revered as supreme by all and has received a slight kindness is common, and one who guides one into the Dharma, like a monastic preceptor, is guiding. One who bestows vows and empowerment is vow empowerment, one who has become an object of confession is replenishing deficiencies, one who liberates the stream of knowledge like a teacher who expounds the Dharma, and the guru who shows profound oral instructions, etc., are the six. In particular, those who explain the tantras, bestow empowerment, and receive oral instructions are especially worthy of respect.

Then, from the Peaceful Tantra of the Gathering of the Eight Sugatas, it is taught that the empowerment of the tantric liberation itself. It is said. The method of honoring is from the 'Clear Light': "The king who has power over the country, the uncle, father, mother, and eyes, should be regarded as more than the heart." Therefore, the general lama should be honored like a king who has power over the country, the guiding lama like an uncle, the lama of the vow empowerment like a father, the lama who fulfills the broken vows like a mother, and the master of the oral transmission and scriptural authority like eyes and heart. In particular, the three special objects are endowed with three kinds of kindness, so they should be regarded as more than or equal to the Buddha. Without any pretense in the three doors, one should do whatever pleases them. The third is the vow not to interrupt the mantra and mudra. There are three objects of mantra and four mudras. From the 'Clear Light': "The root is generation and action mantra, the vow is action and dharma, and the body itself is the four great mudras." It is said. The way to practice them without interruption is taught in conjunction with the three levels of diligence: great, medium, and small. From the 'Clear Light': "The best is like a stream of water, or three days and three nights, two or one, without distraction, recite naturally. The medium does not interrupt for one month, six times, or four times. The lowest, the yogi of action, should strive diligently every month or at the time of the enclosure. If one does not do this, the seed of enlightenment is lost. The gathering and the torma are also the same. At least, do not let a year or a month pass." It is said. The fourth is love for the brothers and sisters. The object is all sentient beings who are general brothers and sisters. Distant brothers and sisters are all those who have entered the Buddha's teachings. Close brothers and sisters are those who have entered the vehicle of mantra. Among them, the brothers and sisters who are mixed together, those who are gathered by one lama are like brothers of the same father, and those who are gathered by one mandala are like brothers of the same mother. These two are especially the objects of love. As it is also said in the 'Clear Light': "For the sake of the infinite sentient beings' own awareness, whatever is not other than oneself, and because they are brothers and sisters of the Sugata's essence, the future Buddha's nature is the general brother and sister like the father's clan. Those who have entered the Buddha's teachings are distant, and those who have the same view and conduct are said to be close. One father's vows are mixed together." It is said. The way to love them is to not separate until the essence of enlightenment.
