The doctrine of the 'pa' lineage is like the ocean. The ocean is deep and immeasurable, so it cannot be estimated to be just this much. Similarly, the doctrines spoken by the Teacher are profound in meaning and difficult to fathom, and the words are vast and limitless. All of these are completely shown within this great king of tantras, so it is said to be 'shown here'. As it says in the extensive commentary: 'The king of self-awareness who realizes the meaning of equality, like all rivers flowing into the great ocean. In these supreme methods of realizing meaning, all countless vehicles of liberation are gathered.' The reason for saying 'this shows' is that all the meanings of the teachings and vehicles arise from this great king of tantras and are shown by it, so it is said to be 'shown by this'. As it says in this very text: 'That which is widely known in the ten directions arises from the secret essence. The secret essence of self-nature is the source and definitive establishment of all the collections and all the tantras.' The reason for saying 'this shows' is that no matter which door of the vehicle one enters, one cannot ultimately transcend this vehicle, so all other vehicles are taught as a kind of stepping stone to this one. As it says in this very text: 'Even the special arrangement of the levels is the path to enter the secret essence.' For that very reason, this tantra is called the 'general teaching'. If one asks, is it like a general tantra of secret mantra? The answer is no. As it says in this very text: 'It is the general teaching of all characteristics and tantras.' Generally speaking, there are teachings that establish and teachings that manifest. Furthermore, there are teachings of provisional characteristics and teachings of definitive mantra. The latter also includes teachings of the ground, path, and union; teachings of harmonious practice; teachings of actionless perfection; and teachings of liberated knowledge. Here, as it says in the Magical Net Vajra: 'The teaching itself is without impurity, it is the generality of action and wisdom, it is the teaching because it is perfected by perfection.' As it says, the teachings of vast activity are the three divisions of characteristics, the teachings of wisdom deities are the three divisions of outer tantras, and the teachings of actionless perfection are the three divisions of inner tantras. Since it is the generality of these teachings, it is called the 'general teaching'. So it is said. Third, the name of the instruction, which is attributed to the nature of the meaning itself.

Is. In the Minor Commentary, it says, "The nature of going first, it is most precious to mention the name first." As it is said, if the name is not written at the beginning of the book, one would not know what it is, so it is written to dispel ignorance. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra, "If names are not given, all the worlds will become ignorant. Therefore, in order to dispel ignorance, the Protector gave names." Thus it is said. Therefore, the name written at the beginning is: The Secret Essence, the Certainty of Suchness. This is what it says. Explaining its meaning is: In the Minor Commentary of Vimala, it says, "Nature is called secret, greatness is the meaning of essence, suchness is the characteristic, certainty is the brief explanation of the meaning of certainty." As it is said. There are four explanations of the meaning of secret, essence, suchness, and certainty. First, explaining the meaning of secret: secret by nature, secret of concealment, secret of hiding, there are three. Secret by nature is: the signified nature of the continuum, the way of existence, suchness, although it naturally exists in itself, but like a jewel in the basement of a poor man's house, although one has it, one's own eyes cannot see oneself, so it is secret because one has not realized one's own nature. As it is said in the Uttaratantra, "Like in a poor man's house, there is an inexhaustible treasure underground, that person does not know it, and the treasure does not say to him, I am here. Similarly, the precious treasure is contained within the mind, the stainless abiding and the inseparable wisdom, because of non-realization, the suffering of poverty, beings constantly experience various kinds of suffering." Is. The secret of concealment is: the nature of mind is the nature of the Buddha, although it is proclaimed in many sutras and tantras, but abandoning the fact that one's own mind is the Buddha, and seeking the Buddha from other Buddhas, one hides oneself from oneself, so it is a secret. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara, "Children are obscured by ignorance, those who have not understood this principle, seek the Buddha elsewhere, and do not see the existence here." Is. The secret of obscuration is: the profound view and practice of secret mantra, in order to prevent those who are narrow-minded and of inferior capacity from understanding, it is obscured, so it is a secret. As it is said in the Damtsig Gsaltra, "Secret mantra is not faulty, it is only kept secret from those of small intelligence and inferior vehicle." Is. Again, Vi
