The thread should be twisted with nine strands or three strands. The method of placing it is: placing the samaya thread on the ground as the nature of body, speech, and mind. In order for each of body, speech, and mind to possess the five wisdoms, the wisdom thread is placed in the sky above the base of the mandala. The method of placing it is also: As it says in this very text, "It should be done carefully by a great scholar." Therefore, place it without confusing the direction of the circles. If the fault of not being careful is: As it says in the Lamrim, "If the thread breaks, the teacher dies. If the end of the thread is lost, the student dies. If the direction is confused, both are harmed. The lineage is cut off, and the path is harmed. Therefore, the wise should do it carefully." Fourth is the color: As it says in this very text, "Colors are for showing to those who are ignorant and have not seen. Draw with twenty-five colors, or five colors. Be pleased as in the Vinaya ritual." Fifth is drawing: As it says in this very text, "With a lotus center and spokes, with wheels and circumferences on the four spokes, with four truncated corners and a square, with a corridor and a door circumference." As it is said, draw according to the Vinaya ritual of whichever of the three mandalas, extensive, intermediate, or concise. Sixth is arranging the forms: Arrange the forms that possess body, speech, and mind. Or, arrange according to the order of the main deity and retinue. As it says in Ngamglok, "The main deity should be drawn completely in form. The retinues should be made into hand gestures. For the minor ones, it is with letters." Seventh is the consecration: There are two types of consecration, the general explanation of the pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and destroying activities, and the mandala consecration according to the occasion. The first is the branch consecration, which includes the consecration of the action vase, vajra bell, skull cup water, thread, and colors. The consecration with branches includes the vase, student, and deity empowerment. The second is through the nine aspects of the action sequence and so on. Eighth is the fire offering: There are four activities according to the occasion. As it says in this very text, "To the fire deity who has shape, color, and name, and has become a mouth, offer the four activities with food and delicious gatherings." Ninth is entering the mandala: Through the preliminaries such as accomplishment offerings, first the teacher himself enters, and then the student should be made to enter the mandala. As it says in this very text, "The all-doer, the powerful one, enters with wisdom, and then the student should be made to enter."
