Pa'i. Originally, the spontaneously perfect Buddha Dharma. As it is said, the nature of the ground without bondage or liberation, self-awareness, Bodhicitta, the indivisibility of truth, free from conceptual elaboration, whatever is originally abiding. As it says, the nature of mind, this appears as bondage in the state of Samsara and as liberation in the state of Nirvana. However, in reality, there is no dependent bondage, so liberation dependent on that is also impossible, hence it is called without bondage or liberation. The nature without bondage or liberation, self-awareness, Bodhicitta, means that all phenomena of Samsara and Nirvana are gathered into the mind, and the mind's nature has never been stained by obscurations, hence it is called Bodhicitta. The Guhyagarbha Tantra says: All self-awareness is Bodhicitta, this is said to be the measure of scripture. The meaning of Bodhi is the meaning of without abandonment or attainment, meaning that the two obscurations to be abandoned do not need to be abandoned, and the qualities to be attained do not need to be newly attained, but are spontaneously perfect from the beginning, hence it is called Bodhicitta. In that, the indivisibility of truth, free from conceptual elaboration, whatever is originally abiding, means that the nature of that mind, the ultimate seven treasures, spontaneously accomplished as the nature of reality, is the ultimate truth. As the Lamrim says: That also establishes three aspects. Thus, the Dharmadhatu ultimate, the wisdom ultimate, and the fruit ultimate abide in their nature. Its example is that the nature of mind is like space or like a dark, black mirror, which is the Dharmadhatu ultimate. The aspect of clarity and purity without obscurations is the wisdom ultimate. Just as a mirror has the ability to reflect images, in the realm of mind's clear and pure nature without obscurations, the qualities of body and wisdom arise unceasingly and abide, which is the fruit ultimate. As the Lamrim says: Because of seven and three, the ultimate truth. As it is said, the fruit ultimate is divided into five: body, speech, mind, qualities, and activity, so the nature of mind, the ultimate seven treasures, spontaneously accomplished as the nature of reality, is the ultimate truth, and the manifestation of the power of the nature of mind, the ultimate truth, as the mandala of body and wisdom, is the relative truth. These two are also inseparable in essence, like gold and the yellowness of gold, turquoise and the blueness of turquoise, butter lamp and but

Like the light of a lamp, abiding in the nature of the single essence of union, is the indivisibility of ultimate truth. Moreover, the statement "abiding primordially, apart from the sphere of activity" means that the indivisible truth is beyond the realm of mental thought and beyond the realm of verbal expression, hence the meaning of inexpressible and inconceivable. As it is said, "Inexpressible, inconceivable, is the Perfection of Wisdom." And in the Condensed Prajnaparamita Sutra: "What is that meaning? Examine the purity of space." etc. Here, "abiding primordially" means that it is not an artificial or adventitious phenomenon, but a primordial, reliably sourced phenomenon, the very state, reality, or nature of mind itself, existing as such from the very beginning, hence it is called "abiding primordially." It is said that there are many names for this in the sutras and tantras, such as: the essence of the Sugata-garbha, the naturally abiding lineage, the alaya-jnana, and the tathagatagarbha with defilements, etc., which are the basis for applying any term. As for the Sugata-garbha, in general, in the sutras, tantras, and treatises, the term "lineage" is understood differently according to different philosophical schools. Specifically, the Vaibhashikas consider the mental factor of contentment, which is not attached to existence or the requisites of existence, to be the lineage of the noble ones. The Sautrantikas consider the seed of mind, the potential for the arising of undefiled wisdom. The Chittamatrins consider the power to generate undefiled dharma, which abides in the mind-stream from beginningless time, to be obtained by the nature of dharma. These are the views that consider the Sugata-garbha to be conditioned phenomena, the views of the realists. The Madhyamikas, while largely agreeing that the tathagatagarbha with defilements is the lineage, have many different ways of identifying it. Here, according to the unique view of the Mahayana, the nature of mind, primordially and naturally pure, abiding immutably in the essence of emptiness, clarity, unobstructedness, and all-pervasiveness, is the Sugata-garbha, as stated in many profound definitive sutras. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Pure, clear, luminous, uncompounded, uncreated, is the essence of the Sugata, the dharma-nature that abides primordially." And in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "The silk of three thousand great thousand worlds."
