The reason why the five consorts are called "consorts" is that they are the cause of generating (the Buddhas) and the object to be enjoyed, so they are called that way. In the period of conceptualization, the five elements generate the five aggregates; in the period of deities, they are the objects to be enjoyed by the five lineage fathers. Or, the nature of the mother is the dharmadhatu, and the nature of the father is wisdom. Therefore, they generate the wisdom of the dharmadhatu and are the objects of the wisdom of the dharmadhatu. It is said that this is the reason. The reason why these five are called "supreme" is that their qualities surpass others, so they are called supreme. Regarding "dharmadhatu," Sunlight Lion said, "The meaning of dharmadhatu is inexhaustible." Therefore, they are the source of the Buddhas and the cause of generating the wisdom of bliss, and the mothers are the mudras of the dharmadhatu, so they are called that way. Second, the individual names are: The reason why the mother of the dharmadhatu of space is called "appearance" is that in the period of conceptualization, if space is not opened, all things cannot appear, so what opens (things) is space; in the period of deities, just as the dharmadhatu of space is the object of consciousness, (she is) the consort of the immovable Vajra Buddha. The reason why the consort Buddha Eye is called "firm" is that in the period of conceptualization, (she is) the earth element with the characteristics of hardness and stability; in the period of deities, because she is stable and the basis, she is the mother of the Buddha family. The reason why the consort Mamaki is called "joy" is that in the period of conceptualization, (she is) the water element with the characteristics of moisture and cohesion; in the period of deities, because she moistens the continuum and accumulates merits, she is the mother of the Ratna family. The reason why the consort White Robe is called "warm" is that in the period of conceptualization, (she is) the fire element with the characteristics of heat and burning; in the period of deities, she is the Lotus family mother who makes the attachment to signs clear and purifies (afflictions) with the fire of wisdom. The reason why the consort Samaya Tara is called "action" is that in the period of conceptualization, (she is) the wind element with the characteristics of lightness and movement; in the period of deities, just as the wind promotes what is desired, she is the unobstructed worker, the mother of the Karma family. As it is said in this (scripture): Earth and water are Buddha Eye and Mamaki, fire and wind are White Robe and Tara, space is the mother of the dharmadhatu. Second, the retinue with special intelligence has two

Regarding this. First, the retinue of the prince bodhisattvas, then the great Bodhi Vajra Manifestation, etc., up to "the assembly that has not come," these have been explained. If we explain its meaning, it is divided into two: general and specific. First, the general name is: the name for the hero fathers is called "Great Bodhi Vajra," because all the collections of conceptual thoughts, such as eye consciousness, are originally the mind of Dharma-nature Bodhi. The fruit that manifests as it is is the Great Bodhi. Although it appears as cause and effect, in reality, there is no distinction between deity and conceptual thought, therefore it is called Vajra. As it is said in the Minor Commentary: "However many the arrangements of the retinue,/ It is said to be the realms and sources./ Consciousness, objects, and faculties,/ Times and non-perverted ones,/ In the nature of Great Bodhi,/ It is a spontaneously accomplished mandala." So it is said. The names of those mother consorts are called "Consorts," because, in this context, the four objects generate the four consciousnesses, and the four times separate and generate the four faculties, therefore they are called that way. Second, the specific names are: the four inner hero fathers are referred to as Manifestation, etc., which sequentially refer to the four consciousnesses of eye, ear, nose, and tongue, and are names of conceptual thought. Because relying on the eye faculty, the eye consciousness can see the object form, etc. These four, Manifestation, etc., are the four heart heroes at the time of the deities, namely Manifestation is Earth Essence, Smell is Space Essence, Hearing is Vajra Hand, Taste is Avalokiteśvara. They are called heart heroes because, in the fourth chapter of this very scripture, it says: ཀ Ka is the essence of the heart of the eye. Kha is the essence of the heart of the ear. Ga is the essence of the heart of the nose. Gha is the essence of the heart of the tongue. So it is said. The mothers of the four inner heroes, namely the objects of manifestation, etc., are sequentially the four: object form, sound, smell, and taste, and are names of conceptual thought. Because the eye consciousness, etc. are the basis of the objects of manifestation, form, etc. These at the time of the deities, the object of manifestation is Lāsyemā, the object of hearing is Gīrtimā, the object of smelling is Mālemā, the object of tasting is Nīrtimā. They are called body consorts because, the four objects
