All of you. Long-term spiritual friends who have entered the teachings of the Buddha, close spiritual friends who have entered the vehicle of mantra. Among them, especially, the spiritual friends who are intimately mixed, gathered by one lama, are like brothers of one father; by implication, those gathered by one mandala are actually like brothers of one mother. These two are especially worthy of love. As it is said in the "Clear Illumination": For the sake of the self-awareness of limitless sentient beings, whatever is not other than myself, is a brother of the Sugata-garbha, the nature of the future Buddha, is a common spiritual friend, like paternal relatives. Those who have entered the Dharma for a long time, and those who have similar views and practices, are said to be close. Those who are intimately mixed with the vows of one father. So it is said. The way to show love to these people is: with the thought of not separating until the attainment of enlightenment, to always cherish and care for them. As it is said in the "Fearsome Lightning": Even the compassion for Vajra brothers, all brothers whether mixed or not, those who have entered the right path, even a mind with offerings, should always be abandoned. Exert the power of cherishing and caring, and look at each other like eyes. So it is said. Fifth, regarding the proclamation of secrecy, the place is as stated in the "Subtle Expansion": Those who have broken vows, those who have deviated from vows, and those who have no vows, those who have not seen the mandala, all those who are mixed and unmixed. So it is said. What should be kept secret from these people is: Among them, the "Four General and Intermediate Secrets" and the "Ten Ways of Appropriateness and Entrustment." So it is said. Among them, the four general secrets are, as stated in the "Clear Illumination": Profound view, outrageous conduct, deity name, dharani, and signs of accomplishment. Profound view is to be kept secret from those of lesser intelligence, such as the Hinayana; conduct is to be kept secret from those who are not mixed. The three, the deity, mantra, and signs of accomplishment, if shown to those who are not mixed, will violate the vows; even if shown to those who are mixed, the accomplishments will be lost, so they should be kept secret in all circumstances. The four intermediate secrets are, as it says therein: The place, time, companions, and substances of practice, should be kept secret and practiced in the middle. Therefore, during the period of practice, it should be kept particularly secret. What is appropriate to keep secret is: offerings, secret practices, and the misconduct of spiritual friends, etc., whatever should not be seen or heard. What is entrusted is: the lama and spiritual friends instruct, "Keep this and that secret." These are.

It is not because there is a flaw in the Dharma that it needs to be kept secret, but rather: Secret Mantras do not have flaws, but for the sake of sentient beings, they are kept very secret. If one can keep secrets, accomplishments will not disappear, and for the sake of secrecy, various coded languages are spoken. Thus, these five are the basis of the path and the fruit, and are therefore called the root vows. If these are summarized into three roots, then, guarding the guru and fellow practitioners are the vows of the body, mantras and mudras are the vows of speech, and bodhicitta and the ten secrets are the vows of mind. If summarized into two, then, honoring the guru, loving fellow practitioners, and not revealing secrets are the three vows of guarding, and bodhicitta and mantra seals are the two vows of practice. Some people think that the counting method of body, speech, and mind is the same as before, but they count not abandoning the unsurpassed separately, considering them to be four roots. But I think it is better to include not abandoning the unsurpassed in the mind, because the Hevajra Tantra says: Meditating on the three bodhicittas is the vajra vow of mind. Secondly, the branch vows include five that are not to be abandoned and five that are not to be discarded. The first is: Ignorance, attachment, and hatred, pride and jealousy are not to be abandoned. In this context, the "Clear Illumination" says: When the vows of not abandoning are spoken, it refers to the correct five poisons and the wrong five poisons. Generally speaking, there are two types: the correct five poisons and the wrong five poisons. The first is: When realizing the equality of all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, from the perspective of view, there is no partiality, and from the perspective of conduct, there is no distinction between what to accept and what to reject, this is ignorance. For beings who have not realized this, compassionately arising attachment, this is desire. Destroying wrong views with self-born wisdom, this is hatred. Not lowering the view of realizing equality, this is pride. Views and behaviors with dualistic clinging cannot be accommodated in the realm of equality, this is jealousy. These are not abandoned for the sake of the benefit of oneself, others, and the three dharmas. The second is: If it is said that the five afflictions are not to be abandoned, then, is this secret or public? It should be kept secret from non-vessels and made public to vessels. If it is said that this is interpretable or definitive, since there is no need to say that not abandoning afflictions is interpretable, here the equality of great wisdom is also grasped by view and declared as definitive. Why are they not abandoned? Because the wrong five poisons are not to be abandoned, because abandon
