Furthermore, even if one accumulates merit in this life but does not attain the ripened result, the best among them will see the truth immediately upon separating from the body, relying on the clear light of death, and thereby attain the ripened result. The middling ones, because they do not recognize it, will attain it by seeing the realm of experience as illusory when the actual appearances of the bardo arise. The lowest ones will see the truth at the moment of taking a body after the appearances of the bardo have subsided, and thus transform into a body of ripened result, with their minds manifesting as the body of a deity. Among these, the first two do not have a gross arising body, so they are nominally ripened results, established from the perspective of seeing the truth. If one asks whether it is similar to Tshewang (long life empowerment), it is not similar, because that is a body of pure elements, while this is a body of habitual imprints. If one asks whether there is a difference from the vast (Dzogchen), there is, because it is said to be in the form of a deity's body. Our own tradition follows the general view of the earlier masters, that if the ripened result is not attained in this life, the middling ones will attain another body of ripened result in the next life, and the lowest ones after many lifetimes. It is unreasonable to think that it is attained in the bardo, because the qualities of ripened result are not complete, and because from accumulating merit to uniting with the uncontaminated, there is nothing smaller than the nature of ripened result, and this itself is the last existence for uniting with the vast Dharma. The first point is established, as it says in the Lamrim: 'The yoga of the deity is clear and complete, the net of the body is obscured, like the Kalaviṅka bird without fear, after separation, the manifesting is the ripened result.' The second point is established, as it says in the Lamchung: 'Because of weak strength, conditions, and aspirations, the remaining body of arising thoughts is left.' The third point is established, as it says in the Lamrim: 'Like the vast eye and the earth, having obtained the seal but not touched, the form is complete and the power is great.' And, 'Immediately upon separation, the four seals are complete and become mine.' Second, analyzing the doubts about the essence, some earlier masters say: 'The essence of the ripened result is the body After separating from this, it is placed at the moment of going to Mahamudra.' To this, the Lord asked: 'That is not reasonable, because there are two faults. First, does the ripened result do benefit for others or not? If it does not, then it contradicts 'not abandoning and abiding in others.' If it does, can it complete the benefit of others in a moment?'
