For the purpose of transforming the place and making it the cause of elaboration, as stated in the Lamrim: "The fruit is to be completely accomplished, to be obtained by the cause of elaboration, to control illusion and emptiness, and to transform the aggregates of consciousness, in order to ripen others." So it is said. Secondly, the essence is: the body with four mudras, appearing clearly as inseparable from emptiness. It says in this: "In the clear realm of the sky, the sun and moon, the king of wisdom meditates calmly." So it is said. Thirdly, the categories are: one mudra of meaning and one mudra of sign. The first is: realizing the inseparability of truth as one's own nature. The second has two aspects, subtle and coarse. The subtle is: studying the syllables. In the extensive explanation, it says: "The outer and inner vessels and contents are gathered into Hūṃ(藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽)." So it is said. The coarse is: meditating on the deity's body with the same mudra, that is, the peaceful deity with the same ornaments and the wrathful deity with the same ornaments. Fourthly, the result is: gaining stability in the clarity of the aggregates of consciousness as body and wisdom. Incidentally, resolving disputes: At the time of the one mudra, should the remaining nine deities be meditated upon or not? If not, it contradicts what is said in the Lamrim: "In one place, meditate on the wisdom being, in the three places of the crown, throat, and heart, bless and meditate on the three vajras, in the five places of the head, the five wisdoms, the five wisdoms adorned with complete power." If meditated upon, it becomes not one mudra, because the remaining nine deities are meditated upon together with the root deity, making ten in total. The answer is: the remaining nine deities are meditated upon. If it is said: then it becomes a fault of not being one mudra? The answer is: there is no pervasion. Because although the nine branch deities are meditated upon, only the root deity is not meditated upon. Like the trunk of a tree. Furthermore, if one knows the suchness of one dharma, does one know the essence and extensive explanation of all dharmas or not? If one does not know, it contradicts what is said in the Mother Sutra: "If one knows the suchness of form, one knows the essence and extensive explanation of all dharmas." It also contradicts what is said in the Lamrim: "For the sake of knowing, all are known in this way." If one knows, does one know the other deities by knowing the deity's body of one mudra as appearing inseparable from emptiness? If it is like the latter, then the vow of knowing all by knowing one is broken. If it is like the former, then does the meditation with elaboration become meaningless? The answer is: by knowing the nature of one deity, one knows all deities.

Although understood with a mind that ascertains the nature, even so, meditating with elaboration does not become meaningless, because even if understood with a mind that ascertains the nature, it does not fully encompass the extent of knowledge through familiarity. Therefore, it is necessary to meditate with a mind that ascertains the nature of things, just like the nature of gold and the differences in craftsmanship. Furthermore, regarding the deity form of the same mudra, do you meditate on it as appearing, or do you meditate on appearance as being without inherent existence? If it is like the former, it will become no different from conventional truth; if it is like the latter, it will be a fault of being no different from those who attain realization instantly through meditating on the deity form. Answer: There is no fault. Because even if you meditate on it as non-dual here, you must first learn other samadhis, while those who attain realization instantly do not learn other samadhis, so the difference is very great. Fourth, elaborate mudras have four aspects. First, the purpose is: to liberate from the conceptual thoughts that cling to a single deity, to reverse the conceptual thoughts of differentiation, and because elaborate mudras can accomplish activities, they become the cause for accumulating merit and accomplish the two types of attainments. As the Lamrim states: To perfect the accumulation of merit, to bless the places of activity, and to expel the borders of samsara, meditate for the sake of gathering at the time of assembly. Summoning, sending, binding, liberating: killing, giving life, and subduing, the samadhi of victory is accomplished by this. Second, the essence is: to meditate on all collections of conceptual thoughts as clearly appearing as the mandala of deities of non-dual wisdom. As the Six Successive States states: Therefore, the two truths are without distinction, outer and inner vessels and contents are primordially pure. Third, the categories are: the elaborate mudras of nature, path, and result, of which there are three. The first is: all collections of conceptual thoughts are primordially abiding in the mandala of deities. The latter is: in Akanishta, many Buddhas of the great wheel of samsara and nirvana reside. Elaborate path mudras are divided into: peaceful and wrathful. Both of these have four aspects: elaborate mandala, elaborate assembly, elaborate face and hands, and elaborate types. The first has: extensive, intermediate, and concise three. The second has: one, three, and five. The third has: one face and two hands, three faces and six arms, especially wrathful deities have nine heads and eighteen arms, up to countless heads and hands. The fourth is: peaceful deities have a thousand Buddhas, twenty-four thousand Buddhas, and the three spontaneously accomplished ones.
